Bill Belichick Will Likely Never Coach Again (3 Viewers)

What are the odds Dallas does likely end up being that team by this time next year, Widge? I strongly suspect Jerry Jones has realized Mike McCarthy probably won't be taking the Cowboys to any SB, much less an NFCCG any time soon, but he doesn't want to pay out the remaining part, the last year of his 5-yesr HC contract McCarthy signed back in 2020 so he'll play out his last year as a lame-duck HC and once Dallas gets knocked out of the post-season or doesn't make it at all, he's done.

Then...we might see Belichick gets his last, legitimate chance at winning another Super Bowl or break Shula's all-time NFL wins mark, which he seems obsessed towards surpassing. His tenacious obsession as it relates towards reaching this goal impresses me, Widge, as someone who has OCD, ADHD, and ADD. Whether BB will accept a job where he's just a HEAD COACH, instead of expecting or believing he'll also get the same level of personnel control in Dallas as he did in New England remains problematic and unlikely, IMHO, to be granted, considering how much of a possessive, control freak Jones is.
I just don't see BB taking over in Dallas or JJ offering it to him. Jones won't give up control as an owner/gm and BB won't take a HC spot unless he is the defacto GM and HC.

In today's NFL landscape, I don't see a team giving him the amount of control he demands, might be one, but the age thing is huge...

I would be interested to see him go back to coaching college, with how different it is now from when he coached there last. All the spread offenses, managing NIL, etc. Be curious to see if he could take over a smallish program and build it up.

If Dallas fizzles out either in the regular season or again early in the playoffs McCarthy will be out in big D.

JJ has to have the spotlight when at all possible. He and BB may be old enough to compromise. The average tenure of a HC in the NFL today is 3 years. BB could be enticed to go to Jerry's World to get his 15 wins and the all-time win record with the possibility of another championship without Brady or in N.E. Jerry may tolerate 2 years of Bill without getting to the Super Bowl for Bill to set the record while coaching the Boyz.

If not in Dallas, there will be at least 5 new coaching opportunities for BB in 2025. With a year off Bill may be a hot hire for one of those jobs for similar reasons. There will be a lot of fan fare wherever he lands in 2025. Unless his health takes a sharp turn downward I think he will want to return. If he didn't desire to continue he wouldn't have sought the opportunity this year.

Possible landing spots would fall outside of those that were filled this year more than likely. Almost every one of the other 24 teams is open for discussion today until the 2024 season plays out. Is 73 the new 53? Don't sleep on Bill until he turns the lights out.

There is a scenario where Andy Reid retires and Belichick is brought in to keep it together. There has been many murmur's about Reid not coaching too much longer.

Did Mike Vrabel get hired by any new team after Tennessee impatiently and a bit rashly fired him? Vrabel did play a few seasons with KC towards the end of his fruitful career in the late 2000's and IIRC, was an assistant early on with the team in the early 2010's? If Reid does indeed end up retiring, logically I could see Kansas City being a great place for Vrabel to continue his coaching career plus he'd have some success already under his belt that he would have some credibility, earned reputation that would make him stand out to those Chiefs veterans and Mahomes then bringing in some young, gifted talented OC/DC with no HC experience.

Even still, if Vrabel were eventually to be hired by KC, my God, the shoes he'd be filling would be astronomical, unbelievable, and almost impossible to satisfy. I wouldn't envy that task upon anyone. The championship expectations, the level and superb quality of achievements that Andy Reid has set in Kansas City over the past decade is Hercullean. Reid is, arguably, the best HC in Chiefs history, yes I'd put him higher then Hank Schramm. I'd certainly put him higher then Marty Schottenheimer who had a decade's worth of success, but mostly failed, especially after 1993, to do anything in the post-season but lose close, painful agonizing games late in the 4th quarter.

If he keeps losing in the playoffs Jerry might change his mind and be willing to turn over the reigns to BB for a couple years. Jerry can then take back over in 2 or 3 years.

I can't see him coaching in college with all the recruiting commitments at his age. That's especially so with the transfer portal and NIL. I can't see BB wanting to deal with that and having to deal with the issues of 18 - 22 year old kids.

Assuming all he really cares about is breaking the record then he should be fine allowing a GM run some of the behind the scenes stuff for him so he can just focus on coaching.

I its spot on to point out that a team in any sort of rebuild mode with out a legitimate starting QB would have zero interest in BB. This cycle the only team that remotely fit that criteria was the Chargers. Once the Chargers saw that JH was in the mix, he became there #1 option.

He needed another one of these solid but underperforming playoff teams to fire there head coach. Some place like Dallas or Buffalo. In fact I think the only way he coaches again is if one of those teams fail to make the Super bowl again next year and feel like there is a chance that BB could come in and put them over the hump.

It's a copy cat league and the new shiny toy are these young hot-to-trot HC's and OCs. Teams looking for a coaching regime to pull them out of purgatory are more likely to go looking for the flavor of the month instead of bringing in a historical name that hasn't had any recent success.

Tom leaving NE and winning a SB in Tamp seems to be a mark against Belichick. Especially since BB's team has struggled ever since. Makes it look like that dynasty run was all or at least mostly all Brady. And that makes me nauseous.

One suspects the main reason he wants to coach again in the NFL is Don Shula's record.

The ideal place for him would be one of the military academies. Annapolis, where he grew up, seems perfect, but Navy has a coach entering only his second year. Army's coach seems secure.

Living in Boston the last year; they have been ready for him to leave. Its obvious hes in over his head in todays coaching needs.

Bill wants a HC title for Shula record, thats it. He may not find a job this year, as the trend is younger offensive coachs but I believe that will pass in years time. I could see a talented team looking for a short term fix in BB in the coming years. The point that is obvious is Bill is already in his 70s, one should tread carefully

If I were Bill, I would be looking for a spot as a senior defensive assistant/assistant head coach type position if I wanted to keep coaching. Starting from scratch at his age seems odd to me. But being the guy who could help take a mid defense to a great defense without all of the hours demanded from a head coach would sound appealing.
Exactly and still making bank….🏦. That sounds more appealing than a head coach in my eyes.

It’s a new age offensive driven league and he’s a defensive minded head coach with an old school mentality. He’s a great coach with attention to detail, but he’s got both those factors working against him.

At least older coaches like Andy Reid and Sean Payton can still thrive in today’s league since offense is their MO.
Sean Payton better find some Febreeze and freshen up on the innovative side of things, or he’s at risk of falling into the “game has passed them by” group of coaches.
