Bountygate CliffsNotes (Long) (1 Viewer)

It would be great if someone modified the wikipedia entry on bountygate to include this type of material, including citations to Tagliabue's findings, the Vikings program, Kansas City's Kill the Head language, the recent lack of interest by the NFL in the payment for an actual injury by Tomlin in Pittsburgh, etc.

Otherwise, the history of what happened goes unchallenged and new generations just learn from the wiki entry that looks like Goodell wrote it.

I remember when the Saints got flagged in the NFCCG against the Vikes for wiping him out on an end around. I was livid because:
#1 I didn't think it was an illegal hit. He was a blocker and they took him out en route to the runner.
#2 Because of the exact video you showed. I remember he either ended that guy's season or put him out for a while with that cheap shot. So as a defense why wouldn't you blow him up before he takes a cheap shot at your knees and ends your season or career?

My thoughts exactly. Favre squared up on the backside pursuit. He wanted to be part of the play as a blocker. It was a bad flag on a legal play and trash as support for a bounty claim. It was probably the cleanest hit on Favre the entire game.

I have tried. Every time that I try, it gets changed back and I get a warning. I am sure the page is moderated by an NFL hit man or a Vikings fan.

Okay, I'm going to take a run at making changes in Wikipedia. Could others help me by providing articles that I can use for support and citation? I'm looking for articles by Florio or others that put forward the information that supports what the OP posted.

As an example of a much-needed correction, the only thing the WIki introduction says about Tagliabue's rebuke of Goodell is the following: "However, former commissioner Paul Tagliabue overturned all sanctions against the players in December 2012 after finding that despite the players being "very much involved", the coaches and the Saints organization were primarily responsible for the scandal.[6]" AFAIK, this is not true and it mischaracterizes what Tagliabue said and even what the article says.

There are many examples like this.

Here's the article that the entry cites to support the above: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...-vacates-new-orleans-players-bounty-penalties

It will be very difficult to have change stick on this topic. Each wiki page has a moderator who has total control of content. If it's something they don't agree with, they will remove it. If you keep trying they will ban you from making edits. Use a VPN to do it. They track IP addresses.

According to the wiki, the article was last edited 16 days ago by a community college student sportswriter, so it can be done! You can find who last edited the wiki at the bottom of the page.

I would say just be careful with your sourcing and don’t make any analysis or interpretation yourself, but quote a “reliable” secondary source. Even then, that may not be enough to overcome bias from the page moderator, if that exists.

UCFSaint, thanks for putting this together.

Goodell's worthlessness is a constant sour point on the NFL. Everything he decides to get involved with is a debacle because he's been in over his head from day one and unlike 99% of other working Americans he has not gotten one iota better at his job over the years. If anything he's gotten worse.

The Harrison thing is the latest in a long line of examples of guys laughing at how they had a bounty system in place, with Goodell acting as impotent as possible. He's literally frightened of confrontation when it comes to bounties at this point. Bart Scott got on the radio a few years ago and laughed at how he intentionally tried to break Reggie Bush's ankle - not a word from Goodell. It went completely unacknowledged. Goodell is an incompetent coward.

what I alwyas wondered is why no one took the time to really investigate this (like the OP did). Things like 'least penalized team' or 'injuries in games' are things that are maybe time consuming to find out but it's not hard to come up with these facts. none of the people who call themself journalist ever tried to rectify anything in hindsight or saw the faults in the NFL arguments during bountygate and gave these counterarguments (except Florio, but as stated he was relatively new/unknown) Everyone willingly turned their head and looked away, and they still do.
when will someone grow a pair and use their platform to show the world the NFL, and in particular Goodell, flat oud lied.

And just like that.......I'm all torqued up and pissed off again!

Thanks for putting that together, as it's a great reference for those of us whose blood still boils when the Goodell-gate scandal gets discussed. As time has passed, I feel like I put this away and move on in a healthy direction. Then, something happens and the wound is raw again, just like that (snap). Non-call in the NFCCG...someone mentioning "bountygate".....BOOM goes the dynamite!!!

This week is going to suck for the people around me now, and they won't know why. And if I tell them about "old, unresolved feelings from 2012", they're gonna roll their eyes and it's gonna get even worse. Poor bastids....

Saw this article yesterday and thought about the timing.

On February 25th, 2012 Goodell wrote an email stating the league was going to engage in a "ground war" on the concussion issue. One week later...
