Bountygate CliffsNotes (Long) (3 Viewers)

I don't know if you mentioned this but the Saints were the 3rd least penalized team during those 3 years so even if they did have a bounty program then they were very bad at it.

I think I forgot to put that one in there. I want to say that they were even the 2nd least penalized team during that span but can't remember now.

I thought it was third but second would be even better. How do you take one of the least penalized teams in the league and then claim that they are the dirtiest? Another piece of proof that they were lying is that Harper was clearly our "dirtiest" player and yet he wasn't considered one of the ring leaders with Vilma and Fujita.

Let's not forget the NFL lap dogs who perpetuated the lie.

For example - Warren Sapp:

“Not for one second would I sit in a room and listen to someone say, ‘We’re going to take out someone’s ACL,’ without standing up and saying, ‘What the hell are you talking about?’ ” Sapp said in an hour-long phone call, most of it discussing the recent revelations about the New Orleans Saints instituting a bounty program. “The way you play defense isn’t about malice. It’s about putting you in fourth-and-more than you can handle.”

I doubt Chad Clifton agrees with that statement.

Kill The Head: Part of Coach Williams' “defend ever blade of grass” strategy..Its strategy was to get RBs and WRs to mentally vacate the game. The logic is that if you allowed RBs and Wrs to run straight at you and successfully penetrate your defense, then you would basically validate their superiority. You would by default present a passive approach to defense. The result of this would be catastrophic to any defensive game plan.

In the Chiefs’ defensive line meeting room, “Kill the head & the body will die” was the first thing every player saw, every time he walked in.

13. Vikings Bounty Program:

It was all fun and games when Favre was injuring players with cheapshots

But the play might have put to rest any talk of a schism in the locker room, given that Favre’s decision to get his hands dirty (albeit with a dirty block) apparently won him some credibility among his teammates.

I liked it,” tight end Visanthe Shiancoe said. “Hey, it’s man eat man
out here. [Editor’s note: You know, that one is way too easy, especially since Shiancoe said it. I’ll just leave it alone.] You better keep your eyes on a swivel. He saw Brett out there
and said, ‘Ah, Brett ain’t going to do anything.'”

You are exactly right. The media had a hot topic to get people to click on...and that is all that mattered. And honestly you can't expect the average reader to follow the trial, go down the rabbit hole and get the facts themselves. But you would expect the media to do that. But unfortunately that is the age we live in...sloppy and lazy reporting.
And is exactly why electronic media is dying. Most notably; electronic sports media.

There is simply WAY too much electronic media. It is over the top and too challenging for people to determine what writers are legit and what writers are just plain writing to get hits. In other words. Lots of garbage and unsubstantiated words. So what happens over time? Everybody ends up sinking with the ship. This is exactly what is occurring now. I really no longer read any on line sports articles. EVERY writer believes they have a scoop, or a dish...etc.

Thanks for all of that. I was a rabid dog during the weeks and months after the sham bounty fiasco. I sent things to Mike Florio very often, some via direct email and others as posts. He was not yet a "big deal" in the NFL media circles, and PFT was still in its infancy, but he had a cult following and many front office NFL types looked at what he had to say. He was 100% into the fake NFL story early on, his being a Vikings fan probably clouded his judgement, but he eventually turned 180 degrees and is totally onboard with the Saints on this now and bashes the NFL on this issue every chance he gets. Jerks like Peter King are still sucking at the trough of the NFL pig slop on this. I really dislike the guy, such a phony inside New Yorker who laps up whatever swill the NFL is pushing.
