Brandon Cooks - RUMOR (2 Viewers)

That $16M cap number doesn't carry over. Only his base salary.

That would put him just above Robby Anderson. Maybe bargain is too strong, but he wouldn't be overpaid at that point. And that assumes we don't extend him into the void years on his deal.
Carryover would be his base and his bonuses yet to be paid. Almost $14 million. Would put him around 12-13 on the list.

Cooks has had 5 concussions in 6 years in the league, 3 in the last 2 years and ALREADY avoids contact like crazy.

Don't get fooled by gaudy stats largely achieved in garbage time on a bad team.

Lots of depth at WR in the draft and good FA still available.

Not really. Considering his cap hit is top 10-12 in the NFL.
At 12th, his production is still as good or better than the guys around him on the list. And I'm not counting Michael Thomas' lack of production either because I know he'd have gotten 1500 yards if he had actually been playing.

But the other guys at that cap number? Corey Davis, Mike Williams, Julio Jones, Nelson Agalhor. Only Williams was over at 1000 yards last year (1100). Cooks had 90 catches and 1037 yards.

You can argue about his concussions, but the dude's production is in line with what he'd be paid. And there's little chance we wouldn't restructure his deal because right now, he's got void years in 2023 and 2024.

Just was told the Saints have made calls about Cooks. I’m sure they’ve made calls on a couple of WR’s but Cooks is intriguing as a complement to a heathy Mike Thomas. As always, take it for what it’s worth. Strictly a rumor.

They've inquired about Cooks multiple times over the last two years.

Even with all that he's still better than anything that was playing on the team this past season. A call to check interest doesn't hurt a thing.

Cooks has always been good, his problems though are twofold. First, he avoids contact like the plague and always has, even in college. The other is the guy trips and falls when he even Sees a DBs shadow. If the Saints are going to keep him on the perimeter and use him in routes of lesser contact, then it’s fine. If they expect him to run physical routes no use in even trying.

Remember when he was here both him and Ingram were complaining about lack of touches. Payton fed them both. The difference is Mark had the best streak a New Orleans RB has ever had with the possible exception of Rodgers. Cooks numbers went down and was shown the door after that season
