Not really fond of Staley, the only thing he got going for him is that he coached Aaron Donald. I would love Nussmeier though.

I don't think that is entirely fair. Donald was obviously an amazing talent, but you don't coach a defense to number 1 in the NFL (which he did in 2020) based on one player alone.

I do think it's possible, but it also might be odd for Parker to be the DC with Staley here as Assistant HC/LB Coach looking over his shoulder.

It could be odd, but they'd have different responsibilities with Staley helping Moore navigate the HC job. I feel like the assistant HC job is going to need to be held by someone that isn't responsible for one side of the ball this time. I loved it when Campbell was doing that part for Payton while he was here.

I like Parker. He completely turned around that secondary from bottom of the league to top of the league in one offseason.

The Eagles have a talented secondary, I think that was more causation for the turnaround.

Maybe, but Staley was only there for a year and Salah is all the assistant HC Shanahan needs.

Measured by DVOA ranks, Staley didn’t accomplish much with the Rams. Their defense ranks:

2019: 7th
2020: 3rd (Staley’s one year)
2021: 3rd

They were a top unit before he got there, and remained a top unit after he was gone.

Same ranks for the Chargers, with the year before and after Staley included:

2020: 20th
2021: 26th (Staley)
2022: 21st (Staley)
2023: 26th (Staley)
2024: 9th

Their defense was bad before he got there, stayed bad while he was there, and improved a ton one year after he was gone.

He hasn’t shown that he can build a defense from the ground up when given the opportunity. Sure, other candidates haven’t shown an ability to build a defense either, but they haven’t had the opportunity like Staley did.

Eagles twitter is melting down just over the possibility of losing Parker right now.

Parker developed those young/rookie DBs in Philly I don't blame them. I'd love for Parker to get his hands on Koolaid and Alonte.

He's certainly highly qualified and a great coach. But you don't know if he can design and implement a defense and whether he can call plays. He may be great at all of that but it is a risk because he's never done any of it before. I tend to think that I'd rather take the chance at greatness rather than the safer choice in Staley, but I can see why Moore might prefer the safer more experienced option.

I think we just have to trust that Moore will know if Parker is ready for a DC job.

We should have our OC and DC in place by tomorrow, a week after CKM was hired. Getting them in place ASAP allows them to have a week with the team before the combine. This will help everyone get on board with scheme, player assessments and the combine.

Well so far I personally think this is a great off-season. We are cleaning out the old coaches and getting younger coaches that haven't had long tenure with the Saints. I wanted new blood so I couldn't be happier.

So far it is looking pretty good on paper it will be interesting to see how it develops over time . This is definitely heading into a new era of Saints football and it actually is pretty exciting to pay attention to the news this off-season.

Please let us hire Staley for Assistant HC and Run game coordinator or Assistant HC/LB coach (Joe Vitt role). I'd be happy w/ either of the other young candidates for DC.

Edit: And if it's Staley, please let us get Daronte Jones as DB coach/Passing game coordinator. I do believe adding passing game coordinator to his title would make it a promotion and not a lateral move. As long as someone w/ good secondary chops is working w/ Staley we're ok
