Britney Griner released 12-08-2022 (32 Viewers)

Based on the information available, it seems like he was punished much more severely than is typical in Japan.

I'm sure the judge held a grudge for the bad reputation Marines have in Japan.
Completely agree with your last point. I'll add that we contributed to that ill will because of our handling of those countless allegations by skirting the SOFA and getting the accused servicemen out of the country.

Indeed, our reputation has been earned, however in Ridge’s case, he paid the standard restitution, and there were conflicting reports regarding what caused him to black out (the Japanese say that he fell asleep, the Navy says that he suffered from mountain sickness). It seems that his punishment is also paying the price for the sins of others.

My attention has been focused on other issues. Are a lot of ugly things being said about Fogel online? Great that he’s been released from captivity. To hell with the corrupt Russian regime.

If we're going to hail one American hostage being released from Russia, shouldn't we should hail them all? Marc Fogel's name hadn't been mentioned since @WhoDat?DrewDat did 2 and a half years ago.

"Why can we spill so much ink about a basketball player being released, but hardly mention a teacher?"?

just a guess

Most of the time I think you're a decent person. This is not one of those times.

I realize this matters to you not in the least.

I'm glad that he's been released. I was glad when Griner was released. I'm assuming that Fogel isn't being dragged (at least anywhere near the same extent - but probably not at all) for his race, gender, and sexual orientation, by people who think he "should rot", and If he's not being treated that way, I'm glad about that, too.

I guess I'll have to check Facebook and see how Zuckerberg's troll army is handling the news. I know they've been pretty busy with Beyonce and Kendrick the last couple of weeks, so Fogel might not be on the radar as much. Or something.

But really, let's not go lightly on recognizing that Vladimir is a despicable bastage and none of these Americans (U.S. Citizens for terps ;) ) should have had their lives upended for petty offenses.

I see the absence of this not being mentioned not only now after his release but at all as political. His 95-year-old mother regards this as a promise kept that was made to her by the orange man. There has been another released whose name has not yet been announced. I think it's a shame on all of us, including me, that we only talk about those who have some fame.

Perhaps, but I think it's also true, maybe more so, that vitriol drives a lot of online engagement. I think most people agree that Fogel should have been released and are glad he has been. I wish it was always that non-controversial. I wish people like Putin didn't exist; motivated to harm others and recklessly exert his destructive influence.
