Broncos hiring Pete Carmichael (1 Viewer)

Can you imagine how weird it must be for all these players and coaches to all go back to Sean? Man he built the Saints and there’s no guarantee Mickey can rebuild them. Mickey is like Bellicheat without Brady. So far it has been a total flop since Sean left.

I mean, Sean hasn't exactly lit the world on fire in Denver. Maybe without Brees, Sean is like Belichick without Brady?

Or, I don't know, maybe, just maybe, the success in New Orleans for 15 or so years was a combination of the talents of Brees, Payton, Ireland, and Loomis. Along with all of the other players and coaches.

Man, they were 26th in yardage last year and somehow averaged almost 30 yards per game less than the Nathaniel Hackett offense in 2022. I'll take the Saints.
They also scored 5 more points per game with the same team they were 32nd in scoring the season before. If CSP gets his QB of choice, I'm not saying that they will be better than us offensively, but it would be leaps and bounds better than this season was. We will probably also see Russ go somewhere on a league minimum and succeed in a "modern" offense..lol

If 2021 didn't happen, I would be led to believe that but we were a tie breaker away from a playoff spot playing 4 different QBs, a broken down O-line, weak RB room, and nothing but practice squad guys and UDFAs at wide receiver with a tougher strength of schedule than we had this season. I'm just saying...

Fans of a certain age should remember when Bum Phillips imported several of his assistants and mostly washed-up players to the Saints from the Oilers. For the most part, it didn’t yield too much success.

Bottom line, Payton won’t succeed in Denver until he starts over at QB

At this point, I won’t be surprised if Payton tries to trade for the Saints name and colors.

I'm not saying Payton isn't a good HC, he is. We will find out just how good when we see if he can rebuild the Broncos or win with what they have. But sustaining success for 15 years and even winning one Super Bowl, takes the combined talent of the coaching staff, players, and the front office. Sometimes a synergy develops that just works and it's hard to recreate that synergy in a new location. I suspect Sean is seeing that now.

Edit: I'll add that the Saints are seeing how hard it is to maintain that synergy when you lose one or two of the key people in it. They tried to re-create that synergy with the same front office, mostly same players, and mostly the same coaching staff. But, it just doesn't work without Payton and/or Brees.

I'm going to guess a dynamic changed after Mr B passed and CSP left due to that. Only thing that explains it. He's basically assembled the same team there that he had here as best he could.
