N/S Brutal Hit: Trevor Lawrence went to another universe (Update: Al-Shaair suspended 3 games) (7 Viewers)

Dirty hit, and I can't believe others are saying "not that bad of a hit" He led with his brace straight to Lawrence's head. It was a bull **** dirty play and if happened to a Saints players you'd want the defender's head on a platter.

Out for the year and fined. Should have the snot beat out of him as well.
Other angles show that the blow was to the pads, not the head. If it happened to a Saints player, I would look in the play in its totality and I would have came to the same conclusion. On first watch, I thought it was jacked up, but then looking at the play in different angles and slowed down, I see the play differently.

I think that all protections for QBs need to be removed once they cross the line of scrimmage and they are held to the same standard as any other player. Expecting a hit instead hoping you be saved by a late slide would have prevented this, just as well as sliding earlier.

By rule, Lawrence is going to be down here as soon as his knee hits the ground - it does not require contact. A disciplined defensive player knows this. Even if it wasn’t intentional it was reckless and the league is going to punish it. This is precisely why they even have the QB slide rule in the first place.

He’s down at this point - by rule.

While this is true, I've seen QB's fake that move and sucker a defender. Until it's illegal for the QB to fake going down or out of bounds, I can't really blame the defender.

Being it was divisional matchup, I can understand the seriousness of winning the game.

But, if this was a failcons defender hitting our QB late, I bet those who saying it was just a football thing back your words up real quick.

Edit: and can you clearly not see his own teammate reactions? Lol y’all big tough guys eh?

Player committed to tackle same time as slide. Did hit him in pads forcibly causing QBs head to snap back.

Still don’t see intent to injure, just a guy playing hard.

People need to chill w/ calling guys dirty, same was said about Shepherd’s play. I find it rare that guys are trying to injure each other when playing
Did you see the way he acted afterward? And how he tried to bait one of the Jag players into another fight as he was being escorted off the field?
He needs an attitude adjustment. Even several of my Texans fan friends said he should be suspended.

That's a valid point. However, I'm sure most defensive players are aware of the fine line when quarterbacks try to slide or go out of bounds. He launched to lay him out if he didn't get down in time. I don't think it was dirty; it was just a "you better duck" situation.

How does a QB fake a slide?

I can agree there can be plays in the gray area but Lawrence clearly went into a sliding motion four yards away from Al-Shaair.

I think they refined the slide rule to reduce the need for the defender to hit the QB. The rule is triggered as soon as the QB begins the slide - he’s down as soon as his any part of his body not his feet touch the ground.

I don’t think it’s possible to fake this posture:

He's a full 3 yards ( almost 10 ft) away and not even in tackle posture when Trevor begins his move to slide.

If you want to see someone in a certain light, anything they do will lend credence to how you feel. I don't think it was dirty or intentional, but I do think players have to realize it's better to ease up on QB's than to go for the hit 99% of the time because 99% of them will slide vs take you on.

He deservered to be suspended, doesn't deserve to be called dirty.

No, it's dirty. You don't drive your elbow into the face of a sliding QB hard enough on impact to bounce the QB head off the turf to cause a severe concussion.

The defender was obviously trying to rough him up and get away with one. He seriously injured him instead. We can strongly assume that wasn't the defenders intention, but it was dirty and unnecessary.
