Buccee’s (1 Viewer)

I saw the dark side of this place yesterday. Every other time we have been we drive right up and parked next to the building. I never even noticed all those rows way out. Yesterday there was enough people to fill the arena. I went in the back and still had to go super slow, gf was complaining the whole time.

So your GF is the dark side of Buccee's?

Once you got into the parking lot, you couldn’t get out. Completely locked up. They got caught by surprise when everyone got off because it was raining so hard on I10. They had a truck rushing around trying to regain control with cones but the horse was out of the barn

Last week I made a trip to NH to see my Dad and sister (her son and grandsons also). Since this one is directly on my route I took the exit intending to get gas, a sandwich, and some snacks. The entrance is right off the exit however the entrance had cars lined up and slowly moving up the drive (about a 1/4 mile long) You can't see the store or pumps yet because a hill. Since the line is moving I joined the line and slowly made my way up. When I finally got close to the pumps I was shocked to see every one being used (120) and at least another 100 cars waiting to fill up. At that point I said screw it and joined the line to get back down to the highway. Ended up wasting 30 minutes. On my way back Sunday I thought about trying again but this time I could see the store from the highway and it looked just as packed so I didn't bother to get off the highway. Ended up stopping at the one just east of Birmingham since it is only 3 miles off my route home.

We have one coming to Wisconsin.

I'm planning my next vacation. How long does it take to put one of these up once they start building?

We stopped by the Buccee's in Katy (west side of Houston) at 5:45am on Saturday morning... at least 75% of the 120 pumps were occupied and the inside store was buzzing with activity..

On Sunday, passed by the Luling (Tx) store and the new mega-center construction is well underway and it's enormous (75,000sqft, 120pumps). It makes the current store look like a 7-11. The current location is still super active, all pumps were filled and had cars waiting in line..

Buccee's mgmt has definitely hit a sweet spot in the market...

About 3 months ago it was announced that they are going to build one just west of Ruston (between the LA Tech exit and Grambling). Construction is supposed to start early in 2024 with opening in 2025. I am sure they delay to start construction is because there isn't an exit at the location yet put there is one planned and possibly started but as those of know Louisiana construction crews are famous for long delays on any project. A couple of years ago they completed expanding a road in W. Monroe from a 2 lane into a 5 lane complete with 4 traffic circles. That took over 5 years to do 5 mile or so stretch. They are now working on repaving Cypress street and they have been working on that for almost a year and still haven't finished.

If that location you are asking about already has an exit then I'd guess about a year, if not it could be 1.5 to 2 years.

does that increase congestion in on/off ramps?

For the Katy location, not as much as you would think. I believe they created a brand-new off ramp and adjacent roads, just for the Buckee's. The "road" system within the facility, parking spots, spacing between pumps and etc are well thought out and offer ample space for maneuvering. And so, even though your head needs to be on a swivel due to the shear number of moving vehicles/people, they've done a good job in planning/designing to handle the usually large crowds. It also helps when your design layout starts off with a healthy chunk of undeveloped real estate.

For the Luling location, it is of older design and the parking lot, maneuverability and accessibility while good, aren't to the same standards at the Katy site. I've seen the parking lot completely full, and cars lined up on the frontage road trying to get in... So far, I've not seen this in Katy..

The thing about Buccees is they don’t have the cheapest gas, but they have the best facilities for what you want (or don’t realize what you want until you are there). Living in Houston I will go to Sam’s or Costco for gas (even though I have a buccees down the road), but if I am traveling to see family, and I have a buccees on the route I will stop there before I stop at a Pilot of Flying J.

If I stop at Bucee's i spend about 10 more minutes and at least 10 more dollars that i would at a normal gas station.

I've done it a couple of times for the novelty, but I don't think i'd do it again.
