Buying Retail (4 Viewers)

Only if you view it through the shortsighted and obtuse lens of a libertarian who values nothing except the supply and demand curve and a race to the bottom.

The world in general and The USA in particular would be far better off had Walmart never existed or had it been run by someone with even a modicum of decency.

It actually was, but that was a long time ago. As with many companies who have grown into behemoths, they've lost their way.

Do you want the $10 warranty on that $20 item your purchasing?

Yes, I bought a $60 electronic device at Best Buy and they asked if I wanted the protection for 7.99 I said no I am going to take the risk on this one today

So Walmart should stop paying wages to people? Oh, NO, they should just pay people MORE. How thoughtful! The argument against walmart is just so silly. They are the most successful retailer ever. They employ over 1 million people. They move goods like no one has ever moved goods before. Walmart is pretty much a miracle of civilization.

Nope it is a corporate greed running over the American dream with a garbage truck full of Chinese junk.

I’m going out of town for the weekend

I went to CVS and bought one travel size toothpaste and one travel size mouthwash

My receipt was 33 inches long (I measured when I got home)

Getting bombarded with daily emails from every store I’ve ever bought anything from ever

And I swear hitting unsubscribe for some doesn’t work

I try to go to the supermarket at off times

So rarely lunch time, or 5:30 - 6pm when people are getting off work, not Saturday morning, absolutely not when they're calling for snow

For the most part when i go to the store it's pretty empty

I go to the store, i only need to get 3 things. The store is pretty empty there are only 3 people in the store

Each of them will be EXACTLY where I need to be and they just stay there

Also at 27 seconds is my personal view on self checkout - NSFW

Emails

1. Amazon sending me emails saying "We found something we think you might be interested in"

Really Amazon? You think I might be interested in the item I added to my wish list 2 hours ago?

2. In store - "Would you like a paper receipt or email?"

If I give you my email address will I get an email from you every single damn day? If so, give me a paper receipt"

Circuit City was the worst with this (and many other things)

They'd spend all this time telling you this was the greatest widget in the history of widgets. And then once you bought the thing they'd switch gears about how badly you need the warranty on it because it's garbage and will probably crap out on you

Well, to be fair, a lot of stores do this. Best Buy, Micro Center, even Walmart. Apple does it when you buy a device online.

But yeah, CC sales people were certainly persistent, lol.

sure, they all mention it, and mostly drop it when you say no thanks

and they'd frame it differently "hey, about one in 1000 does have a problem and needs to be replaced. Item's $500, warranty is $15, do you want it?

Circuit City went full Boiler Room

Some of t6he TV manufactures now require you to create an account with them in order to go through the setups and download the system updates in order to get it running. I have actually had to create an email address on google for a few older customers because that didn't have one just to be able to get the cable service working on the new tv they bought.

Here's what kills me....I order a TV from Amazon and a month later I get an email saying something like..."You were interested in X TV, here are some other X TVs." Yeh, I need another TV right away...smh.

I used to get my hair cut at the "super cuts". Within days- I would get a coupon in the mail for however much off-good for about 6 weeks. I just got it cut, why do I need to go back in 6 weeks?? One time I asked them why they wouldn't send me a coupon when I needed it and not right after I got it cut. She gave me the discount.

Buying warranties on consumer electronics is generally such a bad financial decision.
