Should or could Penning be the next left guard?

Penning was never in contention for Guard. They signed an experienced starting Left Guard Lucas Patrick before minicamp.I 100% believe they would have moved him to guard in the Andrus peat "flex G/T" roll until Ram was ruled out for the season. Assuming we can get a solid RT, I'm down to move Penning to G as I think his poor footwork lends better to guard play than tackle. However I will acknowledge he was one of the few bright spots last year. He played every game and outside of a few penalties, his name was not called much. Not at all what i expected going into the year.
Should? No, let him keep getting better at RT.Should or could Penning be the next left guard?
That's not totally accurate. Several coaches already confirmed (specificaly our OL Coach) that the plan for Penning was always to give hiim a fresh start at RT. I also don't think there was ever any competition. There were several moments during camp where Penning would have horrific days, but the next day he was with the 1's. It wasn't until late in camp that he started doing some 2nd team work, but I think that was so they could see who their best backup option was at RT.Penning was never in contention for Guard. The initial plan going into May was for Penning to compete with Fuaga at Left Tackle. But Fuaga ran away with the starting Left Tackle job from day 1 in rookie minicamp. Penning’s next options were compete for starting RT with Udoh or he would have became the top backup OT.
I remember NOF’s articles saying Fuaga and Penning were going to compete for LT before rookie minicamp. Once Fuaga showed he’s the clear cut best LT firmly above what Penning showed at LT in ‘22-‘23, Penning’s remaining option was RT in OTAs.That's not totally accurate. Penning is upgradeable and a small nugget by Loomis that I hope comes to fruition is that when he was asked about Ram and what the contract alteration meant, he said it was Ram's choice. Potentially he could comeback.
As far as my opinion, Penning is a backup RT and 6th OL in heavy formations.. It would be nice if the team could secure the services of a vet LT, so they could move Fuaga back to RT. In the event of injury Fuaga could slide back to LT and Penning would be RT.
It'll be fun to see how they handle it.

Once OTAs started, we saw the OL coach John Benton say the plan was always Penning to RT. Fuaga’s earlier LT reps made it easier to declare that. Penning definitively being the RT was quiet while Fuaga was initially training to be LT. Allen’s statements were along the lines of “right now” and we’ll see how it goes during Fuaga’s initial LT training.
We need two.I think hes developing into a solid RT that can handle the spot for years, lets not mess with that
BUT holy hell do we need a stud OG or two
He had a good year by Pennings standards but a horrible year by RT standards.I 100% believe they would have moved him to guard in the Andrus peat "flex G/T" roll until Ram was ruled out for the season.
