For those of you like me who share an interest in all things comic book-y, Chris Evans has agreed to portray Captain America in the upcoming movie.

They certainly could have done worse. I liked him as Johnny Storm...and he was apparently great in "Sunshine," something I plan to get around to watching this weekend.

I've never seen him play "serious". It'll be interesting to see how this works out. Also he may get over shadowed by Downey Jr. in the Avengers movie but then who wouldn't?

I liked him as Johnny Storm. I think his Captain will either be really good or just the pitts.

you've obviously never seen Not Another Teen Movie, Mr. I've Never Seen Not Another Teen Movie

(he was phenomenal in it)

It is an interesting choice, much better than picking some musclebound hack just because he "fits the costume."

His style and type reminds me of Ben Browder (Farscape). He's really going to have to bulk up or wear a rubber muscle suit to play Cap.

he's a pretty big dude...

He's an excellent choice, and far and away the best out of the other rumored contenders (John Krasinski aka Jim from The Office, Ryan Phillipe who's about 5'8", Channing Tatum *shudder*, Mike Vogel from Cloverfield, Chance Crawford from Gossip Girl, etc) Of this group, he's the only one who has the look and the acting chops (see the abovementioned Sunshine for proof) to really pull this off. Plus, he's got a potential break-out movie in Scott Pilgrim Versus The World (which is supposedly looking FANTASTIC) coming out this year that should raise his profile and make Cap easier to sell.

Cap needs to have the range to pull off nerdy, pre-transformation Steve Rogers, transform into a believable battlefield legend, and match Robert Downey, Jr. toe for toe and make us believe that Tony Stark would shut up and follow him into battle in the eventual Avengers movie. Evans is a great choice, so long as they avoid the temptation to re-write Cap to be more snarky or sarcastic because it fits more with the "type" Evans traditionally plays.

He also would reprise the role in "The Avengers," which will unite Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton) in one pic. That film is skedded for May 4, 2012.

I don't see a lot of movies in the theatre, but this is one I will see.

I actually think Channing Tatum would have been a decent choice. He's not the best actor but he can pull off steel jawed patriot pretty well. Add a little more energy to his GI Joe role and you basically have Captain America.

I thought this was going to be about Randy Couture.

(I'll probably regret posting this but anyway...)

Personally, I think he can pull it off - I don't know how tall/heavy Capt is supposed to be but I think Evans will fill out the suit. He might still have to put on weight - but he's not as scrawny as John Krasinski who was also rumored - I'd agree if you said he needed to wear a rubber muscle suit.

This guy?

I dunno

The official Marvel site has Cap at 6'2" and 220 lbs. I think he's viewed as more of an athletic build than a really thick powerhouse type build.
