Captain America (1 Viewer)

The official Marvel site has Cap at 6'2" and 220 lbs. I think he's viewed as more of an athletic build than a really thick powerhouse type build.

Cap is roughly Jim Brown size and Chris Evans is roughly Reggie Bush size.

That's about what I thought.

Time to bulk up, Chris.

The good news is, he's already fit, it shouldn't be too hard for him to again 20 pounds of muscles if he puts in the work.

So, they're going to keep the origin story in the original timeframe and the first villian will be Red Skull...

"Virtually the entire story except the bookends are in World War II because we all recognize we have one chance to tell the origin story of how he became Captain America, you can't tell a modern story and then go back and tell the origin story. If you're going to do it, let's do it. Let's do it first. Everyone wanted to tell an origin story. There was a version where it was a modern story and it didn't work."
- Joe Johnston

And, they're going to explain the flag costume by making Captain America a touring USO show character gimmick. Later, when the fighting gets serious, Cap modifies his uniform into armor and tones down the colors.

So I guess they're not going to do a movie with both Captain America and the Fantastic Four as participants?

well kinda got a glipse of what a modern Cap story would be like in the Incredible Hulk.

I actually think Channing Tatum would have been a decent choice. He's not the best actor but he can pull off steel jawed patriot pretty well. Add a little more energy to his GI Joe role and you basically have Captain America.
Tatum looks the part, sure, but Hugo Weaving (who is reportedly in negotiations to play Red Skull) and Robert Downey Jr. would absolutely blow him off the screen. He's the epitome of the kind of easy, surface level casting that's held back comic book movies for so long. You can almost always fake the look, but you can't fake the feel of the character.

The Fantastic Four movies were done by Fox, who still has the rights. Cap/Avengers are being done in house by Marvel. The only way they could use both in the same film is if Fox lets the F4 film rights revert back to Marvel. In that case, regardless of this casting, you'd certainly get a reboot of the F4 movies that is more in line with the comics, so you'd be recasting Human Torch anyway.

Ok, now I'm excited about this film.

Talk about range...he's been Agent Smith in "The Matrix," Elrond, the 3,000 year old elf lord in "Lord of the Rings and an Aussie drag queen performance artist in "Priscilla Queen of the Desert."

(I'll probably regret posting this but anyway...)

Personally, I think he can pull it off - I don't know how tall/heavy Capt is supposed to be but I think Evans will fill out the suit. He might still have to put on weight - but he's not as scrawny as John Krasinski who was also rumored - I'd agree if you said he needed to wear a rubber muscle suit.

This guy?

I dunno
