At the start of the rush he's your RDE and next to him is Bresee

The Stunt takes place and Bresee has done his job, the LT is grasping at air and the LG has to ignore Young to help. You can see the huge gap opening.

Rather than hit the gap right behind the LG who's now fully engaged w/ Breesee. Chase looks to loop behind an engaged Cam Jordan, otherwise surmised as "not in his got damned gap"

Young eventually ends up on the opposite side of Cam. At this point whatever is about to break, is going to break because one person isn't doing their job.

Mayfield uses his feet to hit the empty gap leaving Chase in pursuit and goes to complete this pass for about 12 yds on 3rd and 4.

Yeah, I get it he had really good pressure #'s but he did stuff like this in nearly every single game. Between his and Nathan Shepherd's recklesness they both were drive killers on defense. Shepherd's idiocy wiped out at least 2 Bresee sacks and a few others and Chase routinely was the primary culprit in QB's escaping the pocket. Both should not return as Saints in 2025 if you want to see improvement.

Yes, the draft is deep at edge. And before someone says "fans say the draft is deep at whatever position fits their narrative" according to PFF Edge is the deepest position in the draft boasting (17) of the top 100 players. Next closest is T(14), WR (13,) CB (11), and RB (10)

Good breakdown. Chase was an abysmal signing, meeting my expectations exactly.
He wasn't abysmal, he was productive. I won't deny that and he's a problem for most OT's. However if Payton were here, and that Do Your Job mantra was still hanging up, Chase would have been someone that didn't do his consistently. You could call what he was doing the equivallent of playign hero ball at DE. Had he just done his job in that rep, that's another sack and more money in his pocket. Instead it's a 1st down and not a potential punting situation for the offense.

I am not a fan of those analysis that find one play in one game to try and prove that a player's productivity is irrelevant. Every player in the NFL has bad plays so using one play as an example just seems a bit useless. He definitely is hot and cold, but personally, for the right price, I would like to retain him.

I wonder if maybe a better leader at HC would have made him more consistent. Or maybe if Bryan Young had him all year.

Good coaching and leadership can fix that. I'm not surprised players were playing undisciplined with how dysfunctional the team was. This was his best year since his rookie year and played in all 17 games. I think keeping him and adding an edge in the draft would be a good idea.

It's been 3 teams now. At some point, it's on the player.

Kind of where I'm at on it. Even after workign w/ Payton, Jameis was still Jameis the moment he got a chance to be Jameis.

This play also shows Howden with a late break on the receiver.
Time to add to the Safety room before teams catch on to that positions value going up similar to RB.

Kid is talented and it was not a bad deal to get him on a one year contract, but he can be easily replaced with a draft pick this offseason.
