Chase Young re-signed to a 3-year, $51 million deal (21 Viewers)

🧢. There are a good number of hungry guys in the draft salivating to be picked by any team.
And the Saints could pick them. By re-signing Young, they don't have to pick one in the draft if they aren't one of the best available players when the Saints are up to pick.

This is what the Saints shoot for every year. They try to build a starting roster they are comfortable with before the draft. That way they can pick the best players instead of being forced to draft someone to fill a hole in the roster.

I like their philosophy and approach on the draft.

It will be interesting. They are betting on his athleticism. I think he will be more of an outside linebacker, and will drop into coverage as well. His work ethic will definitely be put to the test now.

Read the grade on Chase Young basically summed up why Loomis should be fired

Are you that dense to believe anything that that network says about anything Saints related??? SMH Even the best grading site out there PFF is very flawed when it comes to grading the DL. Do you just scour the internet looking for anything negative by hack writers?

If he's playing on the weak side it's not terribly different than being a weak side DE just stand up and probably out a lil wider. Still his main priority will be rushing the passer.

It puts Granderson in a weird spot as I'd figured he could go back to the right side and be a good fit as a pass rusher from there. Left side it's not as clean. He's good in our nickel package if it's 4 down linemen but in base 3-4 he's not the run down the field in coverage kind of guy.

Foskey is actually a good fit for 3-4 strong side linebacker as that's exactly what he did at Notre Dame in their Vyper role. Played both linebacker and DE. He was never able to transition to a hand in the dirt DE because he lacked the bend to get around the corner and wasn't strong enough to win with a bull rush but maybe he can fit in that role since that's exactly what he used to do.

ESPN could really kick rocks and eat a dirt with their Saints grades. They’re meaningless towards the Saints’ personnel outlook and what’s best for the team according to how the FO operates. ESPN hates to see the Saints spend cap at this point because they don’t understand what the Saints are trying to do to clean up the cap. Every offseason transaction grade they’ll give the Saints going forward this offseason will reflect that mindset so we might as well brace ourselves to see C, D, & F grades which doesn’t mean anything.

Meanwhile the Saints needed to secure (retain) some form of high ceiling young talent/potential at Edge before the draft while also helping their cap.
This re-signing/extension helped the Saints’ cap out tremendously by creating cap space from reducing 9m dead money down to 2.72m new cap hit on a 26 year old talent.

Crazy thought:

Maybe the people who actually worked directly with Chase Young (like Brian Young) have a better read on whether he is “lazy” or “takes too many plays off” than random people on a message board or ESPN.

I’m guessing the FO wouldn’t have kept him if they felt any of that were true.

People are allowed to agree and disagree.

ESPN (more specifically, one writer) disagrees with the move. He is no more qualified to grade the move than anyone on this message board.

He seems to want us to tank. We aren’t.
