Send him to a place like GB and watch what happens. Some guys are just not ready. Willis looks like a completely different guy now in Green Bay. He didn't have enough college experience but his measurables are off the charts. I don't think it's an accident that a guy like Jayden is playing so well after 55 starts in college.
What happens is they lead an average offense when the offense is capable of so much more with a real starting NFL QB. Great coaches like Tomlin recognize this and make tough decisions to find that guy and not settle for years at a time with a developmental guy when the team is ready to win now. Developing a future QB only works in very unique circumstances when you already have an established starter and should have been what we did in our last years with Drew.
I think he's handling it great. Can't blame a coach for not finding hall of famer after hall of famer, but he's evaluating QB's on their merit and turning these guys over quickly to find the right one without wasting time and/or giving out massive contracts. It's early but they might have finally struck gold with Wilson if he keeps playing like the last two gamesI mean, I like Mike Tomlin a lot and I think he's a great coach, but I wouldn't site him as the example of how to handle the QB position. They haven't had a good QB other than Roethlisberger and even he wasn't good for several years before he retired. And since he retired Tomlin has settled for Pickett, Fields, Trubrisky, Rudolph, and Wilson.
They're in an exciting transition now. They thought they could go the rook rought, but Kenny was just part of a weak QB class, so they figured they would take a chance on the local kid. It will be interesting to see how the Russ/Fields thing plays out. However, you know they will always maintain a competitive team. What happens is they lead an average offense when the offense is capable of so much more with a real starting NFL QB. I agree they're searching, but it demonstrates the stark difference between coaching and FO ability. They remain a force despite going through a similar path of looking for a successor to a HOF guy.I mean, I like Mike Tomlin a lot and I think he's a great coach, but I wouldn't site him as the example of how to handle the QB position.
