Comedians (2 Viewers)

That moment when you realize all the comedians in the thumbnail are infinitely funnier than Rogan.

True.. and im no fan of Rogan- i think he tries to give this appearance of “neutrality” when he is anything but, just admit what “side” you are on dude- but i dont think he makes his bones these days by being a comedian, or by being funny.. he’s one of those rare public people who was able to change midstream from being mostly a comedian to being mostly a host/podcaster.. granted, that transition started a long , long time ago with Fear Factor .

Joe is not intentionally funny. His comedy just isn't good. So many jokes go over his head because he takes people literally when they are in conversation with him.

Can't listen to his show like I used to because he's basically sounds like a shill at this point. Can only tune in now when there are interesting guests on.

I can't find anything to disagree with there. His comedy is definitely lacking. If I listen to Rogan's podcast (clips, not the podcast in its entirety), it's because there's an interesting guest or topic.

it was supposed to be the 'you me same' gif but it just pasted the image i guess
Ah, gotcha! I don't remember how I found him originally, but I subbed to his you tube (not sure if I put him on the you tube creators thread) and he uploads a lot.

ETA: Also, he's from Alexandria, LA originally

do crowd shots add anything?
comedy shows and rock concerts regularly show crowd reaction - but not so much for jazz/orchestral concerts or dramatic plays

football games might be the only time that the crowd shot actually adds something to the narrative

I think it makes sense precisely on those grounds. Rock shows and comedy shows are enhanced by being part of the crowd. Being in a small group or even alone with a rock group or comedian performing is going to be less enjoyable - so a video of same show giving you a sense of the audience sharing your reaction is relevant. Same for sports.

I don’t think the same applies for a jazz show or dramatic piece. Sure being in an audience is part of the experience but the sense you have of the experience isn’t really enhanced by sharing it with the others as it is with those.

distinction I would make is that with comedy/rock the visuals are showing THAT the are enjoying (visuals always very similar) with football it’s often showing HOW they are enjoying - lots of variation

The first just seems a signal that it’s ok to enjoy and I think most are able to suss that out themselves
