Comic Con Talk (Renamed since LA Comic Con can't get it together) (2 Viewers)

I hope it's gone well enough for FanExpo to return. Hopefully New Orleans gets a "COVID mulligan" if that's something that even appears to be limiting crowd size.

Pretty astounded that 90-year-old William Shatner did not drop out. Michael Rooker is not a kid himself at 66, but he lives for these things.

The three WW cons in N.O. that we've attended would most definitely have been super-spreader events had COVID existed at the time. Makes me wonder how different things are at Fan Expo -- fewer people, more spread out, limited seating for panels, etc.
They're definitely coming back for next year as they offered those so wanted to the ability to roll their tickets to next year. They were in parts of Hall H and Hall I. Lots of open space in certain parts, especially near the celebrities. They also had enough seating to ensure there was space.

So @Grandadmiral, what was your overall impression / thoughts on Fan Expo?

I think it could've been a great weekend for me with omicron throwing a wrench in my interviewing schedule. Like I mentioned in another post, I was disappointed in the vendors present, but that is only because New Orleans was my 3rd or 4th Fan Expo show in the past 12 months so plenty are repetitive. I think those who were looking for something different than Wizard World would have been pleased with the programming even as some guests cancelled.

They do a great job catering to all ages.

Should be pretty excellent once we get past all the covid.

We're rolling into February soon and doesn't look like there's so much as a peep out of the Louisiana Comic Con folks for Lafayette this year. I'd figure that we'd start getting some kind of news by now, but nothing on their Facebook or website. Anyone hear any rumblings of anything??

AVC still has it listed on their branding (social media banners and stuff) some of which has been recently updated, but there hasn't been anything tangible about it. Very weird. Wonder if they somehow lost the Cajundome convention center.

Well ... we're three weeks past Fan Expo in New Orleans. Any indications whatsoever that it was a notable COVID-spreading event? It's understood that all we'll ever have are anecdotes, and that's OK.

I wonder how hard it could be considering omicron started surging at that time. However, from what was told, the badges have a contact tracing feature which is why they require everyone to scan in and out each visit.

Since we still have no information on Louisiana CC, I sent an email the other day to one of the head guys at AVC, but haven't received a response on it. I'm starting to think that we're not having the Lafayette show this year because we're now at the end of February and absolutely zero has been said about it.

I have zero proof of this but I've developed a baseless theory they somehow lost the Cajundome convention center after canceling two years in a row and have nowhere to host.

And I still have no idea what that small time con in Shreveport from the former (?) AVC partner was all about. It happened last week. Didn't seem to amount to much.

Can't really blame them for those two cancellations though. First one was the pandemic. Second one was Ida. Both were really out of their control.

No, not at all. But I do know they had issues with scheduling there in the past. Trying to find more workable scheduling is why they ended up running two shows in 6 months a few years ago, because March was the only open date they could get for the next year after hosting in October the year prior.
