Comic Con Talk (Renamed since LA Comic Con can't get it together) (1 Viewer)

I'm actually thinking of going to Jackson this year. Still impressed by the guest list.

And now I see that they've added more folks to Jackson. VXV is making Humble look like crap, especially in Louisiana.

I wish we would have planned ahead a little -- all-day admission of $30 is really reasonable for the Jackson con. Light on panels, which I guess is the trade-off. But you get everything else Wizard World used to bring to N.O. for $50+ a pop.

Blew my expendable money on two cons in two weeks (Texas Frightmare Weekend and Fan Expo Dallas) so no Jackson for me, but it is undoubtedly a much better con than Louisiana Comic Con from a guest standpoint.

The kids and I went to Geek'd Con in Shreveport today. We hadn't been since 2019, so when Brandon Routh was announced a while back, it was pretty much automatic that we were attending.

First off, I got to meet freaking Superman! Brandon Routh comes across as kind, nerdy, and all-around nice. While some guests may put on an act for the fans at these cons, I truly believe that Routh is just genuinely a good guy. He had his son and mother there with him. I got a Superman Funko signed, got a selfie, and chatted with him for a couple minutes. We went to listen to his panel. I swear the way that he played Clark Kent in Superman Returns and the way he acts and speaks in real life are very similar. Even though he couldn't talk about specifics of movies / characters because of the strike, his panel was fun. This is now my favorite auto:

Kevin Smith and Sam Witwer had massive lines, but it looked like all guests had pretty steady lines. I saw Kurt Angle from a distance.

As for the convention itself, I can say they have definitely grown since 2019. When we went then, there was only one floor (the first floor) for vendors and guests. This year, they expanded to the second floor. This allowed them to have many more vendors and guests. There was a noticeable increase in attendance because we had a much harder time parking than before. We parked a couple blocks away in a casino parking garage, so the truck was in the shade, which was nice. The kids wanted to go off and do their own thing (high school junior and senior) when we got there, but eventually, we all ended up walking around together, which I cherished. I bought a few things, they bought a few things. Everyone came home happy. Finished off the trip with a quick swing by Excalibur Comics and then picked up some Whataburger to head home.

So, my last post about Geek'd Con got me thinking about Louisiana Comic Con in Lafayette coming up in March. I haven't looked at their Facebook page lately, so I ventured over there just now. This is what I found:

Ticket pricing for Louisiana Comic Con 2024 will be at its lowest until the end of August. They will increase as follows until the show date (except for military and kids tickets, they will remain the same throughout).
You can also now purchase military and kids tickets online through Ticketmaster (with age verification and proof of service to be handled at check in).
And also to clear up any misconception, there will not be a Louisiana Comic Con in October this year.
Here's the ticket pricing levels and dates of change:
TIER ONE (Now until August 31st, 2023)
$20 per day or $30 for the weekend
TIER TWO (September 1st - December 31st, 2023)
$30 per day or $50 for the weekend
TIER THREE (January 1st - February 29th, 2024)
$40 per day or $70 for the weekend
GENERAL ADMISSION (March 1st, 2024 - Show Dates)
$50 per day or $80 for the weekend
MILITARY PRICING (WITH PROOF OF SERVICE, TO BE VERIFIED AT CHECK IN)
$30 per day or $50 for the weekend for the duration
KIDS THREE TO TEN (AGE TO BE VERIFIED AT CHECK IN)
$10 per day or $15 for the weekend for the duration
KIDS TWO AND UNDER FREE

What kind of half-arsed horseshirt is this? They haven't even made the first guest announcement yet and their cheapest pricing ends in 10 days? This is some straight up amateur-level crap. They better make this right.

They all do this now. Tickets to Fan Expo 2024 went on sale a few days after it ended with a small special.

Speaking of which...

I still think it's a kind of shirty model for ticket sales. Especially when you've got a con the size of Louisiana Comic Con and you can't always know that they're going to have slam dunk awesome guests.

Can't go wrong with Machete...

They've announced Charlie Cox and Katee Sackhoff recently. Seems like a very nice start to guest announcements.

@GrandAdmiral (and anyone else who's attended before), I'm considering heading down with the kids this year. How's the selection of vendors? Usually, our favorite part of cons is doing some shopping at the various booths.
