Congratulations, you've just been hired as the New Orleans Saints head coach. What are you going to do? (51 Viewers)

What do I do? Hope I can last long enough.

There's a real chance we'll be picking #1 overall - without any need of a trade - by the time Arch Manning comes along.

By that time, the expensive aging vets will be gone, the cap will be low, and the talent will be young. Perfect situation to set up a long term power house.

If I can just hold on long enough.

Double-digit wins and division titles are coming. We’re gonna make some noise in the playoffs, too

Make sure Gayle knows this want be a winning team over night gonna send the vets packing if they can be traded.... work on getting the cap down now not at the beginning of every season....
Work on getting the offense back to scoring..... but will go with BPA regardless.... main goal first get the offensive and defensive lines upgraded where it's needed

While I'm honored, coach, I'm going to have to pull a Joe Brady for the LB's coaching position.

I'd be a better fit for the Joker coaching position. No, I don't mean I'd be dedicated to coaching Taysom Hill. I mean everyone would be jeering "that coach is a joke" before the ink on the contract dried.

Absolutely not, coach. Believe in yourself. See you on the field at 7.

Okay, coach. Just want to be clear that I'm from the Patches O'Houlihan coaching tree, so I'll be replacing blocking and tackling dummies with silverbacks and grizzlies.

If you can beat a silverback's block, you can beat anyone's block. If you can tackle a bear, you can tackle anyone. Out of curiosity. does the NFL rulebook specifically state that a player has to be human or homo sapien?

One last thing coach, I'm not much of a morning person, so I'm hoping you mean 7pm. Practice in prime time to be ready for prime time.

I’d step up to the mic at my first press conference and thank Mrs. Benson for the generous offer but explain that after further thought I’m turning down the offer. I will be keeping my current part time job as Offensive Coordinator for the East Memphis Polytech/Tire Mart Golden Gophers.

Lets assume I am a young upcoming OC.

1. I sold the FO that this team is not built to win and that I will need 3-4 year to rebuild.

2. Hire Matt Eberflus as my DC. He's a good on defense and has HC experience that can be a huge help.

3. Cut Carr and plan to start Rattler for the season to see what he has. Yes cutting Carr will make it hard to field a competitive team but it's time to move on.

4. 2025 is all about making good draft picks, building culture and evaluating the talent we have.

5. 2026 is saying goodbye to some of the older vets, we move on from Jordon, Davis, Matheiu and Hill . No big contracts and we look to head into 2027 with a ton of cap space.

6. We likely have top 10 pick in 26. If there is a QB I like we take him, but I am also want to make sure we have a solid OL for our future franchise QB so have zero issues taking them high.

7. Go into the 2027 with $200m in free cap, another top 10 pick and have some talent built up from previous drafts.

8. Maybe Rattler worked out, maybe we drafted a guy in 26-27, but we have our QB, we have built a good OL to protect him and maybe have drafted a few weapons.

9. Spend some money to round out the team and start making a push for the playoffs.

10. Come into 2028 season off a NFC South Title and a playoff win in the wild card weekend. Team feels like we have a window and goes all in. Its pays off as we make it to the SB and crush the Bills, once again denying them on the way to our second SB championship.

11. I coach for another 15 years and we are competitive and win 9 NFC South Titles, make it 4 Championship games and another SB appearance that ends in a bitter defeat to Denver Broncos giving SP his now third ring.

12. I am fired after the team goes 0-17 and Drew Brees who has now been a coach in the league for a decade is named the HC of the Saints and they use the number 1 draft pick to get the most gifted QB in the history of the NFL(Built like Allen but has freakish speed like Lamar, but can process defenses like Manning). They go on a historic run and win 6 straight SB's and the Saints become the new America's team because the Cowboys have sucked for ever.

13. I get a job calling games and end up also becoming the greatest color guy to ever call NFL games. THE END!!!!!

I'd hire Kellen Moore.

I'd be open to trading Derek Carr for some mild compensation assuming team helps relieve the salary burden of contract.

I'd start Taysom Hill at QB 1. Spencer can develop in the wings and we leave our future options wide open.

I'd build a power running team during this rebuild phase. Taysom, Kamara, Kendre, Young RB, possession tight ends/receivers. Shaheed spreading the field.

I'd draft a RB high, maybe Jeanty at 9. I'd add 1-2 quality G pieces to the roster. Re-sign Patrick, he's good if healthy.

Honestly my first move would be to try and move Olave. He's the only player with any real value on the team even with his injuries. We'd most likely sell cheaper than he's worth to a much better organization, but I think this is the best move for both sides.

Plus, it would be hard to extend him while you are trying to get all this Dead Cap off the books. I think his side would be open and motivated to help get a trade done.

After that my instinct is to move on from Carr, but I don't know that it's a real possibility with his cap hit. If he has to stick around, then I am hoping to develop Rattler enough that he can start the last 4-5 games and get an idea of what I need to do at QB for 2026 - be it Rattler, FA, or the draft. Heading into the 2027 season with my future at QB being clear has to be the goal for this rebuild.

I was going to say do a novena. But after seeing KayBee's coaching staff, it's going to take more than nine days of prayer.
