Corona Drinking Thread (renamed) (5 Viewers)

Doing some heavy duty redneck sheet tonight....which seems to be my norm. Drinking beam/coke and shopping for a truck transmission. I'm going to have to be drunk when I buy it too....prices are crazy.
Got the quote back today from the trans builder....$6982.17 out the door.

Holy smokes...that's nuts.
Tell me about it but I'll be able to throw power to the truck and haul a house if I need to haha. I'm tired of towing and worrying if this trans is going to pop and strand us. That trans is good to 550HP which in the diesel world equates to way over 1000 ft/lb of torque.

If one were to take a lesson away from this....don't go diesel unless you absolutely have too. Next up will be injectors and those will be $3000.

Geez, nothing cheap in autos these days.
Diesels are another animal. They are soooo expensive to buy and own. I see kids driving them and shake my head....it's the least common sense to own thing on the road. They make a ton of torque though so if you tow heavy then they make the most sense. I couldn't imagine towing my camper with a gas truck.

If you need them, they are invaluable. If you don’t need them they are a gigantic money pit in the making.

Look, I feel your pain, and if I were in that situation, I'd be screwed. As it is, I have a 2002 F150, the "Pineapple Lemon" of F150s. Last year I had to have a spark plug replaced.....A SPARK PLUG! Because of the way Ford designed the plug, no independent mechanic will touch the job. The plug was "designed" to break off in the motor without special tools and no one was willing to risk it. So, I took it to the Ford dealership. Cost me $400 to replace ONE spark plug......ONE! And they had the balls to tell me it may cost more if the plug broke while they were removing it. Yes, the mechanics that work for Ford, the company that designed the plug so that only Ford dealerships would attempt to replace it, will charge me EXTRA if the plug they designed to break.....breaks. Here I am a year later and I have yet another plug missing. I can only imagine that the cost has gone up in the past year and I'm looking at $500 at least to replace ONE plug. I no longer want to hear anything from anyone about the cost that big corporations absorb in order to bring an "affordable" product to market. Fork 'em.

Wow....I was not aware of that. I try to avoid ford's as much as possible. Seems every time I've worked on one for someone I end up regretting it. I'll be avoiding the 5.4 plug changes for sure though haha. That being said if it were my truck I'd tackle it myself before I paid someone that kinda money. $400-500 buys a lot of tools haha. Some good tips in this video for doing it and I'd totally go to the 1 piece plug like they did.

Great video (Jessica was definitely a plus!). My only issue is that whenever I do something that has been demonstrated could go smoothly, it rarely does. My end scenario goes vastly different than what they showed, especially since they are apparently experienced mechanics. My mechanical experience ended in the 80s, where I could climb into the engine compartment, have a seat, and remove/repair parts at my leisure. This is definitely not one of those times. While I love getting my hands dirty working on my vehicles, I don't think this is one of those times. I can see lots of scenarios that vary from not being able to properly reach a plug to Thanos snapping his fingers and my truck turning to dust. I'll definitely take this video into consideration when making a decision as to what option I'll be using. They do make it seem fairly easy, but experience has proven that it's not always as easy as it seems. The mention of the improved plugs does make me think twice about taking it to a Ford dealership, because I doubt they will use anything but OEM parts in replacing the bad plug. The main problem I'll run into is that it's my only source of transportation. If something goes wrong and I need to visit NAPA, I'm about a 15 mile walk from them. So, in the end, I'll probably just drive it to the dealership, sit around for 6 hours while they drink coffee and horseplay before taking on, what for them is probably a one hour job tops, and pay them for the time my truck sat in the parking lot. Not ideal, but probably the best for my sanity.

Thanks for that video, I hadn't seen that, even though I thought I had searched YT thoroughly for help.
