If the cap goes up by 10M next year then could Derek Carr be a post June 1st cut?

Ryan Ramczyk - Restructure will save a bunch.
Cam Jordan - Restructure will save a bunch.

Maybe Carr and Taysom Hill could be designated as post 1 cuts which would save the team 40M?

So I actually think the Saints will be just fine for a new coach. Not a lot of money to play with but enough to make some small changes.

You have to be under the cap before June 1st.

BTW if you are going to eat anyone's salary, and not push it forward, it should probably be the guy that can't play football anymore.

I keep seeing Carr has a $30/M roster bonus. I also see he will cost $50/M. Wouldn’t cutting him save us the $30/M against the cap?

You have to account for all the money you already paid him when you cut him. For example, his signing bonus, it was already paid then spread out for the cap. When you cut him it all escalates to the moment you cut him. That comes out to over 40 mil.

There is also a guaranteed salary that he must get paid (10 mil).

So you "save" the 50 mil cap figure but gain 50 mil in dead money. So you save nothing and are still 60mil over the cap.

i don't claim to be a salary cap guru. i just looked at the calcuators online and it appears to me we can totally cut derek carr.
The calculators don't put in all the rules for all situations. It would be very complicated to account for everything and know exactly what you want. They just give you tools to work the math.

He can't be released with our cap structure for 50M in dead cap. We can't designate him as a post-June 1 cut prior to the new year in March and we can't get cap compliant without restructuring at least part of his contract. The best we can do is a limited restructure like 20M instead of 30M+ and hope there is cap space in 2026 to release him.

Our FO has to stop back-loading contracts of older players.
Kamara, McCoy & Granderson are the only 3 that make monetary sense...

The answer is yes we can cut Carr. If we do that its means getting other vets to take pay cuts(Hill, Jordon etc.) and doing restructures of almost every other player on the team.

Carr has a $50m dead cap hit if you cut him, but it could be done. The problem the team faces is that restructuring Carr saves you like $30m, so its going to be hard, but not impossible, for the team to get away from him next year.

Carr may not be the answer, but he is perfect to build a solid roster around him, and give time for recruiting and/or develop a young Qb.

We need a solid offensive line and more weapons before giving the qb position to a rookie.
