Looked at the underlying stats. More than 17,000 tested now, 676 hospitalized, 239 on ventilators, 83 deaths. 997 of the positives are in Orleans, 458 in Jefferson.

I don't want to get this to that level of political, so let's not delve too deep into what Silver is saying.

It would be more useful to compare State Governor's and State Legislatures (to get the idea about which states expanded health care or restrict it, etc). Otherwise, it's just noise.

This data set is amazing. It also shows how the outbreak traveled. Basically, The west coast got hit first by direct flights from Asia, and then the East Coast got hit from Europe, while also west coast travel started infecting the east coast and central parts.
