N/S Cowboys officially hire Brian Schottenheimer as Head Coach (9 Viewers)

That means Kellen Moore aka Sean Payton circa 2005 is still in play
I don't buy into that at all. Sean Payton wasn't just a successful OC. He was ready-made to be a Head Coach mentored by Bill Parcells. He sent Donte Stallworth packing and tossed Wayne Gandy's recliner in the garbage. He wasn't just drawing up cute plays. He immediately set a whole new culture.

Kellen Moore has a lot to prove in that regard. Sure, he'll need an opportunity. But I'm not ready to equate him with Payton at all.

Pretty dumb meme considering McCarthy wasn't fired. He did not agree to the deal Jones wanted, he essentially fired the Cowboys.
The main point being made is that one of the reasons given for the Saints to avoid McCarthy is that the Cowboys didn’t want him around, but the Cowboys passing on Moore likely won’t dampen the enthusiasm for hiring Moore.

I agree he wasn’t officially fired.

All these guys, including Ben Johnson and Glenn, have to prove they can create a culture, hold guys to the standard, bring a team together, and do all the administrative details to keep things organized. The one exception to that is McCarthy who has proven he can do it in two different places at a high level.

I think he's pretty far down the list of in play and he's even further down the list now that Moore looks like he won't be going to Dallas. And frankly, Rizzi might be a better HC than Brian Shottenheimer.

That's what we all hope. But the players have all made it clear who they want as HC. If that sentiment goes up the chain, he may not be as far down the list as we hope. And then you have Underhill's post that was deleted.

I still like McCarthy, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Saints did the same thing.

Only two players have publicly pushed for Rizzi. So we don't know who the players really want and while it could have some influence on the decision, I doubt it will be close to the most important thing they consider.

And Underhill's information about the Rizzi interview is still up in an article on his site. He just deleted it on Twitter.

Jones didn't give him a new deal; that can be spun either way. I can easily say his performance didn't justify paying him more money or a longer deal.

Don’t tell me nepotism isn’t dead in sports.
People are throwing around the word “nepotism” on this thread, and I don't get it. Marty Schottenheimer is long out of coaching and has no connection to the Cowboys. And Brian Schottenheimer has coached in the league for a long time. I don't like his offense and wouldn't want him as my HC. But it's not like he hasn't earned his stripes.
