Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (1 Viewer)

WatchESPN comes with the FireStick. I did not have to enter any credentials for an existing cable/directv account. I just tried it and it worked. I hope it does not expire at a later date but so far so good on both the fire sticks.

Thanks thats great to know and may influence my purchase come football season.

I'm pretty stoked about the live sports options available through the Fire Stick and Sling TV. Adding in Plex and this could actually make this a simple solution for the entire household and not just me.

Also the other day I was moving the cable wire from the antenna and had to unplug it for a sec. I was surprised that it gave me a small shock when I touched the tip! Is this normal that the line is a little hot coming from my antenna?

Yes its normal to see a small amount of line voltage.

Question for you guys/gals...

I have had cable tv/internet all my life. Im moving in about 6 months and cant get cable in that area...sucks but my only option for tv are Dish Network or Direct TV.
I don't know witch one I want to go with...haven't a clue witch one is better.

As far as internet I don't want to go with satellite internet gonna go with AT&T DSL... I hate both compared to cable but those are my only options.

So should I go Dish Network or Direct TV?

Since this tread is about us cutting the cord, turning off those options, I am not sure if we are the best audience to assist with suggestions.

that is pretty amazing. A report I saw on the news several months ago on cord cutters said that ESPN was the thing keeping people tied to cable more than anything else. I guess that isn't so true anymore? I have a chromecast and was wondering what the fire stick had to offer above that. Now I know.

I just hope something does not change to take this away. I have a chromecast but I find things work better on the FireStick but I also did not put as much time into my chromecast. What I wanted to do with chromecast was to broadcast a tab from laptop chrome to screen but could never get it stable.

I forgot to mention one other part of my setup. I have installed an app on my Android named TVShow Time https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tozelabs.tvshowtime&hl=en which lets me track shows, to know when new episodes are on, so I can know what I watch, etc. Thus I do not miss a show re-starting as I do not see commercials much anymore (to inform of new shows, restart of seasons, etc.)

Its just a matter of time that the likes of Comcast will being offering bundled subscribers better discounts to retain their customer base and in turn raising the cost of their Internet only subscribers. Others will follow suit.

For the time being, HBO Now is priced in line with HBO’s pay TV offering. Cable and satellite television subscribers who want to add HBO’s channel lineup to their TV package pay $15 per month to do so, which is exactly what cord cutters can expect to pay for HBO Now.

But HBO also offers a free 30-day trial of its streaming service, and users who don’t purchase an HBO Now subscription at the end of their trials are presented with an interesting survey.

The only way I'd consider HBO is if it were in the ballpark of Netfix and Amazon Prime.

I'm getting ESPN and ESPN2 through SlingTV on Roku. It's worked pretty well so far, but I got it after the NCAA Championship debacle, so we'll see how it holds up for "prime time" games. Picture is not as good as other streaming services, however.

I jumped on HBO Now to avoid being gouged by the cable companies for having HBO as part of a package. The service has been amazing so far, with no glitches and great picture quality. For an HBO fan boy like me, it's worth the $15 a month.
