David Carr to visit Saints... (1 Viewer)

I would also rather have AB as a back up. At least if he took a sack he would get back up.

Smiling after an interception > holding onto the ball forever just to get a concussion after the sack. :covri:

i think he might be decent for us. we have a nice mix of talent to surround him with, far better than the texans and panthers. he is young, will be cheap, and doesn't have injury concerns. he is also a BACK-UP, so who really cares. i don't know what ya'll expect out of a backup qb. its not like we are going to find anyone great. i bet he would get a one year contract and have to earn it in training camp. i'm all for it because its not like he is coming in to replace brees. some people here push the panic button way to quick

I'd rather us just re-sign Jamie Martin to a 1 year contract, and continue to develop Tyler Palko... IMHO, Palko will be ready to be #2 as soon as this year.

Is Todd Marinovich available too? Carr and Brunell=Jamie Martin, which is pretty weak IMO

David Carr throws one of the most beautiful long balls in football.

I frankly don't know what to think about it, maybe this is a tool trying to get Brunell to sign quicker, maybe they are covering his grounds.

Brunell seems to be a better fit just by his strong points, he is tough as nails, intelligent, but his problem has always been his accuracy on short passes. Rick Reiprish trade to get him to Jacksonville, so the saints staff knows him well.

I can't make a proper judgement of Carr's Houston years, but his season in Carolina was terrible. The first problem was that some media named him the starting quaterback over the very popular Jake Delhomme. Also, I think Carr didn't have a good relation with his teamates. Maybe he was arrogant, I don't know. One thing that we know is that he never had a chance with the Carolina fans.

In a way, both players are similar in their game, Brunell was a scape-act in his prime but now can be a magnet for defensive ends. Carr has always been a sack-to-be. Both are great with the long ball but not accurate enough in the short passes (I remember Carr last year againts the saints at the dome and he couldn't get the ball to a receiver in short routes).

They may not be the ideal candidates, but I am sure that if any of them is signed, is for a nothing-to-loose bringing to camp situation. I would not give the backup position to any of them just for signing a contract.

As someone who lives in Houston and sees all the Texans games... NO. I knew when they got rid of him and everyone was blaming the O-Line that they were wrong. The O-Line was bad yes, but so was Carr. The guy could NOT make decisions and held on to the ball too long. He would make our O-line look terrible. Say NO to Carr.

He was the only QB last year that did not look like an all-pro against our defense. That says a lot right.

I'd prefer re-signing Martin or even signing Harrington over Carr. Carr has never shown any real ability to be an NFL QB.

Harrington had stretches where he played well. In fact, he wasn't terrible last year. For 2007, Football outsiders has him as the 21st rated QB ahead of people like Gray, Pennington, Culpepper, and VY(!) Over the years, his number show he is a marginal starter (rated 25-32) which makes him a good backup.

sack waiting to happen + lots of NFL losses + odd primadonna complex = David Carr

We're better off without him.

Our offense is based on quick reads (and thus the effectiveness of our OLine in pass blocking). I am not so sure Carr could succeed in our system.
