The Super Bowl LIX MVP told everyone in the postgame that simple, abiding fact.

“Defense wins championships,” Hurts said. “We saw how they played today. We saw the difference they made in the game. They gave us opportunities, gave us short fields. And we’re able to do what we do.”

Vic Fangio was the MVP of this one.

Remember this when you're screaming for 'offensive playmakers' this draft season.

How many years did we have when we had Drew with a top 5 defense and were playoff competitive? Maybe a couple times? Would need to research that. It makes a HUGE difference.

I remember many times we were #1-5 offense and 20's defense.

Since we're doing superficial cliches, the best defense is a good offense. So, even if defense truly wins championships, then the best defense is a good offense.

The Saints during the era of the Dome Patrol had historically top level defenses. They rarely made it to the playoffs and they never won one.

What wins championships is a solid, well balanced team and some good fortune with the uncontrollable factors, like the literal bounce of the ball.

Like my own sig (should) say, balance is key but the correlation between top flight defences and SB wins is undeniable.

It's just something the O obsessives need to keep being reminded of...

I will take no further questions 😉

The Dome patrol was from 1986 - 1992... Swilling was traded after the 1992 season

We went to the Playoffs... & not rarely...
You have to remember this is when the Eddie DeBartolo was overpaying & outbidding everyone for free agents..

The NFL didn't have as many wild card teams... A winning season didn't guarantee you a playoff spot.
We also had Carl Smith as our OC & as you stated we weren't a very balanced team...
His Offense was very predictable... especially bad in the playoffs!

The Eagles offense, as good as they were, did benefit from a few short fields thanks to the D.
Indeed. That defense put the offense in position to look unstoppable.

The Dome Patrol did the same thing against the Eagles, we just didn’t have a quarterback who could capitalize.
