Dennis Allen chewing out Isaiah Foskey (1 Viewer)

I feel like this was important for Allen to do and for fans to see.

It’s been my biggest beef with him. He sometimes looks like a spectator out there, especially when we are on offense.

I get that’s not his side of the game day play calling responsibility, but he’s in charge of the WHOLE team. If he sees a player false starting at a crucial moment, or making errors, no matter what side of the ball, GET ON HIM about it!

I don’t need him hooping and hollering like a crazy man all game long, but every once in awhile, show the players that you’re fed up with them and give them reason to fear their job is on the line by continuing to make you mad.

It was a short video clip in the OP, but for a brief moment there, Allen actually resembled what I believe a HC is supposed to look like after a player makes a mistake.
Allen has always been this way. He’s intense and high energy and that’s how he wants his players to be. The camera just caught him this time.

I think Bresee is gonna produce a lot more than people think. He’s gonna get all the 3tech nickels snaps, and he has the speed and pass rush moves to get after the QB, he’s gonna prove a lot of people wrong.
I was hoping to see him more in run support. I hope they let him play in week 3.

I like to see him wrap up and tackle guys.

He was in on that week 1 4th and inches stuff. And he was blowing up the chargers backfield in the scrimmage. Bresee would have been a top 10 pick if not for injuries, people don’t get how athletic he is, he’s in the top 95% athletically overall and was in the top 97% in 10 yard dash. He is athletically elite, that with his skill set is unicorn like. If injuries are a thing of the past he is going to be the best 3tech we’ve had since Glover

I'm very happy with his progress so far, but I'll keep my expectations low for the sake of him getting plenty of time to develop.

Earlier I mentioned Foskey had a solid pressure that led to Stick having to scramble out of a would-be-sack. Well, he also applied pressure on Yiadom’s interception. If he doesn’t read it correctly and crashes down, Stick would have had a chance either to set his feet or scramble. Instead he had to rush the throw.

My point, again, is that all is not lost with Foskey. There’s things to work with but there’s also learning that’ll he have to do.

True. But reporters are too. Looking at him and hearing what most reporters saw, he doesn't seem to be ready. I just don't want to release a good player just to keep a second rounder.

It's bottom of the position group depth right now so it's a risk the team can take. Foskey is an intelligent, productive college player who needs coaching. Allen has talked about that. Unless he were to become a problem - and absolutely nothing signals that - the team can take some time with him.

Honestly, Foskey is exactly what his film showed at ND. He was a guy w/all world athleticism who had to do a ton of work on the “football” side of his game. He was simply bigger, stronger & faster than the guys he played against in college. Now that he’s in the pros, he’s just like everyone else.

He’s not gonna come in & bully ball anyone in the league w/his athleticism alone. & his much lauded motor has come into question because he seems to be thinking way too much instead of just reacting. On that note, the dude is an athletic freak & has some time to work on becoming an actual football player.

At the moment, i honestly think Foskey’s best contribution to the team is threatening Payton Turner’s status & lighting a fire under him. Turner seems to have gotten the message & has been flashing that 1st RD pedigree a ton these days.

Unfortunately, the Saints don’t seem to do that, especially on defense. They draft undersized college DEs that were mainly designated pass rushers and try to “make” them every down DEs. They also draft DBs that are effective man-to-man in coverage and have them play zone. Or they draft college DEs and try to turn them into every down LBs.
They actually don’t lol.

They haven’t picked an undersized DE in years they all meet the 265 or higher threshold. Id actually prefer if they picked a Harold Landry or two

The Saints also play ridiculous amounts of man coverage

They do take undersized DEs and try to make them Sam LB’s though.

And a little undersized for DE at the NFL level. Who was the guy the Saints drafted several years ago? I think from Oregon. They tried moving him to LB and was injured a lot.
Foskey weighs more than Granderson and he’s the same height and weight as Davenport. At 6’5/265, size shouldn’t be an issue. He just hasn’t developed any pass rush moves to beat OL on the NFL level yet.

I will say he played better. Not by much but saw a few plays where he was close. But a long ways to go. I had problem with Davenport when he first started. I remembered him being slow off the snaps.

We're just going to have to accept that he's a total project that needs to have his game rebuilt from the ground up. He has amazing tools but he clearly doesn't know how to use it effectively.

Foskey wasn't the only one who got an ear full from DA. we were at the game and coach chewed a few guys coming off the field. he saved his best for the refs, at one point I thought he was gonna get ejected yelling at the refs during one of the TV time outs. he was fired up most of the game.
