I don’t hate Carr nor am I a stan for him, but i don’t blame him for not being willing to take a pay cut.

It not his fault that he got the Loomis treatment.

Ok where there's nothign to continue to discuss. Just having a cordial conversation that counters some of the thoughts that Loomis is incapable of not dishing out bad contracts and I'm stating that he reversed course last year.

Another way of looking at it is how much restructure capacity (plus rollover cap) Loomis left unused to show how we weren’t as aggressive this year. To figure the restructure capacity, I’m only looking at salaries that are $2m+ plus any roster bonuses that are $1m+, and I’m assuming a $1m minimum salary to be close enough to the real number (for any salary restructures).

2021: $1.0m
2022: $2.4m
2023: $5.0m
2024: $15.2m

Even though only about $3m of the 2024 number is rollover cap, we will have about $12m less in dead cap in future years due to leaving some restructuring capacity untouched.

You can NOT get an equivalent QB for $30M.

Not arguing that. But how many more games do you think you'd win with Carr at $30M vs. one of those others at say $10M?

If the answer is "not enough to make the playoffs" (which would be a fair projection based off Carr's history), then why not save some money and get in better position to acquire a difference maker at the position in 2026?

Are players whose contracts have "void" years even eligible for generating a comp pick? Or is it like when you cut a player?

They are eligible. The only time a player would not be eligible due to void years would be a contract renegotiation that converted real years to void years (effectively cutting a player before they played the entire "real" contract).

We received a comp pick for Onyemata even though he had void years in his deal, but we were not eligible for one from Peat (he had real years converted to void years).

Minshew went 2-7 as a starter threw 9 TDs and 10 Interceptions with the raiders this year
Carr is 14-13 as a starter with 40TDs and 13 Ints as a Saint


Cutting Carr to sign Minshew is about the dumbest thing a GM could do and would merit getting himself fired.

Will the Saints do something similar with Carr?

Was Carr healthy enough to play the final two games but the Saints sat him to protect themselves against his 30mil roster bonus that’s due in March?

There are ways to cut Carr outright and still get under but it would painful to a degree. You'd have to restructure nearly everyone on a 2nd contract, convince some older players to take pay cuts to stay, and cut some under performers. And you get some of that cap space back once Carr signs with another team because of offsets so theoretically you could convert salary to option bonuses for most of your restructures that don't kick in until the beginning of the season. By that time Carr would have signed with another team giving some room for the options.

Which defeats the whole purpose of rebuilding. You do that if your only purpose is getting rid of Carr. Everything else is fine but him. It's not realistic.

The future QB of this franchise, isnt on the roster. Most of the future of this franchise isnt on the roster. But theres a whole lotta past on the roster. So it makes no sense to restructure and kick more of the past into the future. Let him play in 25, then send him packing.

I sense though, Loomis is going to do just that. He wont be able to resist the restructure. Mash his head, and the future of the franchise against the wall over and over again until he gets a different result. But the results, just keep getting worse. We are in a terrible position as a franchise with Loomis as the GM.



Misleading. He lost against the Rams, the only team with a winning record he played with Carr. He beat 3 teams that finished a combined 14-37.

That is the same old story. 3 straight years we beat some terrible teams late and it provides some misleading excuses.

We still didnt beat anyone we shouldnt have. There was no difference between Rizzi and Allen, outside of the yelling. We still beat bad teams, and lost to decent teams. No change. And interims rarely (3 times) get the full time job. You definitely dont give a guy who was 3-5 the permanent HC position.

I agree Rizzi won't get the job unless everybody else turns them down, and the only thing that was accomplished by firing DA was to torpedo the defense.

I say let him play this year and cut in 26/27. his cap savings post June 1st are massive, 50 million. If we cut him what do we have to lure a good HC to the Saints?
