Not after trade deadline. Everyone goes through waivers after being cut, at least until the end of the season.

Believe they subtract what he’s owed minus what a new team would pay and that’s what the old team is on the hook for.

So not sure of numbers. If he’s owed 2 mil by old team. And saints pay 750,000, then old team has to pay 1.25 mil.

Correct, but that wasn't the question asked. He's not losing money by signing with a new team as a free agent.
