Didn't have this many "come to Jesus" moments under Payton (1 Viewer)

you arent getting anyone any better bc everyone is already on a team
Yes. Of course you are correct, but NFL teams never just fire a coordinator in the middle of the season and bring in some old, but “popular to some fans,” has-been at that point. It’s too late to do any scheme changes and it will make it more likely you double down on your problems.

Ultimately (and I think this is how most GMs would see it), DA is going to have to figure the rest of this season out on his own. After last year’s failures, he and Mickey decided Pete was still our guy, our offensive philosophy was solid, and that adding Carr, getting MT back, and having better health would make us the playoff team they promised we still were last year. Obviously, they seem to have been wrong.

As such, it is sink or swim time for the people whose vision we are currently experiencing.

I'd like to see Curry get interim play calling responsibilities.....I have little interest in Gruden having any role with the Saints, always thought he was overrated as a coach....but I would rather have Gruden than what we have right now.....

I honestly don't want Carmichael fired, I want him back to where he's comfortable while bringing in a coach who's experienced calling plays, is a stickler for attention to detail, and believes in running the ball.

I like to believe Loomis is a very smart guy who is fully aware of the issues on offense and that PC is in way over his head.

He gave what is usually the classic GM "public show of support that is really the kiss of death" statement.

Carmichael followed it up with a bafflingly bad offensive performance.

Another bad performance tomorrow night that results in fans leaving early and a lot boos and I expect Friday morning the first thing we'll hear is PC removed from playcalling duties.

The NFL is like the mob. You can do a lot of things and get away with it, but don't EVER mess with the money.

I'm not ready to say Allen is the full problem just yet. The defense is making plays, they are better than last year at creating turnovers, and even when they get exposed they make quick corrections. 50% of the team is working fine and ST's has been no slouch.

Still, it's the HC's responsibility to make sure everything is rolling on ST's, defense, and offense and so it is somewhat his responsiblity.

Carr spoke about details, a lot and players are having to call players out more than we've done so in the past. We can go back and forth on if Pete is bad as a play-caller and it has warrant but what seems to be more obvious than that is, the players don't respect him enough to not Fork* up on a down to down basis. There was a fear factor under Payton but more than that he was constantly teaching. During practices he'd harp about spacing among other things. Those are things that Pete cannot duplicate as a coach. He doesn't appear to be a stickler for those things, and unfortunately there's too much weight being put on the locker-room to correct those issues.

Allen has to get someone in and I don't think promoting from within is going to do it. It must be a veteran coach that commands respect, it's got to be Gruden.

Bonus points if you keep Pete on the staff. No he's not a play-caller by trade, but he didn't last that long under Payton without having value...it's just the current role doesn't fit him.

This 50% of the team is good so give DA a little credit is crazy.

He's the HEAD COACH. He's responsible for EVERYTHING. He doesn't get a pass just because he's been a good DC. It's obvious he's not a good Head Coach and if he's in that position next season it's just going to be another wasted year like last year and this year and will make the job of the (inevitable) next HC harder. This team is too talented to be playing as poorly as they are. That's on coaching. And ALL coaching leads back to the HC.

The more Gruden was in the booth, the more his "legend" grew... Once he was actually back on the sidelines, he didn't really do that great. I'll pass on Gruden.

This. 100%. Somehow when these coaches get on TV calling games (critiquing other coaches that havent been fired) people think they know everything but when they're back on the field they showe why they were in the booth to start with. Pass on Gruden.

Don't forget how Gruden won his Super Bowl.

An incompetent/lazy Raiders coaching staff changed NOTHING about the offense. They were using the same alignments, playcalls, audibles against the Bucs. Bucs defensive players said they knew the routes, whether it was run or pass, that it was effortless.

It’s always interesting to see how easily a fanbase can delete past horrible memories, when their favorite team is facing current mediocrity. It appears many Saints fans have forgotten how dysfunctional those 2014-2016 years were. Brees even spoke up about players taking more accountability and doing their jobs. He also sounded thisclose to bouncing. Did we forget when he took to the podium in a season’s end loss and said something in the vein of, “I can’t keep doing this” or “I don’t know how long I can keep doing this”? There were team meetings then, too. The Cam’s, Ben Watson’s, Armstead’s, Tim Hightower’s, Curtis Lofton’s, etc were the MT’s, AK’s, & DD’s of those dreadful times.

There’s nothing new under the sun nor under the dome. It’s not that these things didn’t happen with our franchise during Payton’s era. It’s that people have elected to erase those dreadful memories.

Yeah, I understand your sentiment. But supposedly, the info seeping out right now seems to indicate that they have no plans to replace Pete during the season and even less inclination to bring in someone from outside.

I hope things turn around for the better and make this all a moot point, but if this offense keeps stinking and the team keeps losing games, I will be curious to see if DA and is actually willing to stay with Pete as the play caller.
