Directors or actors/actresses who "didn't get it" (1 Viewer)

Speaking of director's cuts, and going back to my original reason for the thread, the "director's cut" of Blade Runner is notably worse than the original theatrical release, IMHO. I was excited to see it, but very disappointed once I saw it. It took out key elements and inserted some nonsense that, while not completely ruining the film, did detract from it greatly.
Then there was a "final version" that changed hardly anything from that bad director's cut.
I'd love to have as copy of the original, not either of the messed up re-edits.
I have a boxed set of the movie with, I think, five different versions. I've watched the original and whichever is the longest version. I'm not a fanboy so I didn't mind the extended version.

I have to be honest. I love that movie. Sure, it's cheesy and overdone, but it's just a fun movie to watch.

But yeah, it's not that he didn't understand the book, it's that he tried to parody it and failed miserably. Which is why I said I was not sure if this counted for your thread.

I don’t know the book at all so I’m out of my depth here but the movie seems very parody to me - I always just thought it was a light parody of the whole genre. That vibe is precisely why I can’t help watching it when it’s on. It has an irresistible goofiness about it.
