DirecTV releases 2nd wave of HD Channels (2 Viewers)

sweet, Cinemax. Late night softcore porn in HD!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!

They have some good concert footage on MHD.

I assume its the same MHD that we've had from Cox. While they do have some good concerts, there are a very limited number of them. After you have MHD a month or so you will find that they just replay those same shows over and over and over and over.

Not that that's MHD's fault. There are only so many concerts filmed in HD. But I think Ive seen the entire MHD catalog already.

Does anyone know when there launching the locals?

A lot of those new "HD" channels have less than half of their content produced in HD. Dish still has more content and channels with native HD programming.

However, DirecTV is worth it for NFL. If you're into that kinda stuff.

Here is the list of HD programming from Dish (from their site). Those in bold are channels that D* will not carry:

http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/our_products/dish_hd/programming/index.shtml

To each his own, but I don't see much there of interest. OTOH, here are some channels that D* has (or will have by the end of the year) that is not in the list above:

SciFiHD
CNNHD
TWCHD
USAHD
SmithsoinianHD
BravoHD
CNBCHD
MGMHD

FoxBusinessHD
FuelHD
FXHD
NBATV

VH1HD
TennisHD
101HD

Plus, D* has multiple HD premium movie channels (for example, 5 Starz channels, 4 Sho, 3 HBO etc.) and I don't know if Dish has just one of each or if they have multiples as well.

Bottom line - both networks have a good bit of HD programming. Dish can no longer claim the higher ground in quality or quantity. They do, however, have plans to escalate the HD war and include more channels. I expect they will do just that, but haven't yet.

It all comes down to preference and what it is that you want to see. Pros and cons to both. Personally, Dish never even enters the picture as long as D* has exclusive rights to NFLST.

Ha. I'm still watching TV on either my laptop or 19" cheapo set with an ariel antenna... :D

DirecTv has always been the better option for football fans. Now they have bridged any percieved gap with HD programming and have set themselves apart from Dish. I'm not bagging on Dish, hopefully they'll escalate the battle and add even more services, which in turn will push Directv to do the same...

consumer....you and me......we win big time!

I wouldn't mind:

Kung Fu HD
Monsters HD
World Cinema HD

I just got my new HD-DVR box so I could get the new channels. Man, I rrreeeeaaalllyyyyy miss my Tivo box. The two tuners aren't nearly as functional on this new box as on the Tivo box.

Do they make Tivo boxes that can get the new HD lineups or did DTv sever their ties with Tivo?

4th wave this morning

Fox Business Network (359)
HGTV HD* (229-1)
FX HD (248)
Speed Network HD (607)
Fuel HD (612)
The Cartoon Network (296)
