DirecTV releases 2nd wave of HD Channels (1 Viewer)

Sony LCD Bravia and the Direct TV HD box - they just installed my 5 Lnb Receiver ( after 1 month! ) and I have the BBC (broad ban converter) - now i am referring to my local channels i get in 480

This may sound like a stupid question, but do you know if your locals are supposed to be available in HD? I know in alot of areas they aren't.

Also, When I first got my HD Dish and Reciever hooked up I had major problems....I got my locals in HD but nothing else. They swore up and down that there was an obstruction and that I wouldn't be able to get HD.
I told them that it was ridiculous and they needed to get out and fix it. I suspected it was my DVR.....turns out I was right. They replaced my DVR and **poof** all my HD channels were coming in perfectly. They should have paid me a tech fee for leading them to the right answer.

Does anyone know if DirecTV will make my locals available in HD?

I was really psyched about FX, but it seems like nothing is in HD on the channel. I recorded Damages and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia last night, but neither was HD. Maybe Nip/Tuck will be, but I want some Sweet Dee in High Def!

Yes they are. Over the air I can get 720 or 1080. So I dont know if the "regenerated signal" coming from the satellite loses its "punch" therefore I can only get 420.

I decided to make the move back to directv full time. I got them to give me a hd dvr and hd receiver for 99 dollars, the premier package for 69.99 for 6 months, free sunday ticket, and free hd service for a year.( 9.99 per month for 12 months). It will be installed on friday. I will really miss having kansas city, new orleans, and lafayette locals that i got with dish network though, and also the equator hd channel. as always, I will go with who provides the most channels in hd. that is the reason I switched to dish network in the first place. if dish upgrades and eventually has more hd channels I will go back with them.

I just got it installed and up to this point I am not overly impressed with the hd quality. of course I have only viewed for a little while so I will pay more attention later on. from what I have seen dish still had better picture quality.

Depending on your TV, you may want to turn Native off on the DTV box and set the format to 1080i (most likely) or 720p, depending on which looks better.

yeah I understand that. another issue that I havent found a resolution to is my local channels have subchannels and I also have a nearby city that I receive ota from and I cant get find a way to just scan for ota on the hr20. I can scan on the h20 and get them no problem but the hr20 seems to be setup differently.

I don't know that you can scan for locals, but then I didn't think you could do that through the H20 either. You can get local OTAs added to your guide by going through the set up and telling it that you have an OTA antenna. It took a few reboots for me to get it to work, but eventually it did, and you can record the OTA's. Not sure if all the subchannels will show up or not, though.

from what it seems like to me, directv has a database of your local channels, but they only let you receive ota channels from 2 of them period. I have 3 markets by me and want to receive all of them. I could care less about guide data for 1 of them, I at least want to be able to view the channels without having to keep switching the secondary market.

diat, I don't have any OTAs at all, so I can't help much. But you might ask this question over at dbstalk or avsforum. I'll bet someone has figured out how to do what you want...

DirecTV has just added NHLHD (Channel 215) and NBATVHD (601).
