Do you remember your first day of high school? (2 Viewers)

It was a complete shock fit me after being in Catholic school for eight years going to public for high school.
Hah, same
St Charles for K-8 then Hahnville

Actually i can since it was Ben Franklin ( on Carrolton ave - now Lusher i believe )

Got off the bus and looked at this school across from Camellia Grill, down street was a Daquiri shop w/ arcade, Cooter Browns just across from there and walking in the front doors to "orientation" to hear " you have off-campus lunch- its up to you to maintain your attendance/grades"

Coool- is it lunch yet?!?!

Needless to say, i lasted 1 year. lol. But it was a really fun year.

I just remember telling myself that I was going to make good grades, do well in sports, and stay out of trouble with the ladies.
I made good grades and was decent in sports.

huh…where do I start..,
1st lusher in no longer lusher - it’s Willow
2. Lusher moved out of there right after Katrina (to the Freret/Nashville campus)
3. It has been a few things in the interim but is now an upscale retirement community

That’s interesting

My middle school was 7th and 8th grade I assumed all were

I don't recall my first day of high school at all. But that's likely because I went to school on the same campus from 5th grade to 12th grade. In middle school, most classes were in the middle school building, but by 7th and 8th grade we had classes in some of the same buildings as the high school so there was never really any change for me in the transition from middle school to high school.

We all ate in the same cafeteria at the same time and there was a snack place where both the high school students and middle school would go.

Think my first day of high school was 1981. I recall asking an older student where a particular building/class was located. He told me. And then I turned to a friend of mine saying “either we can trust him or he’s just messing with a freshmen”. Turned out he told us true

Very well.. as if it happened 6 months ago.. it’s been almost 40 years .

Had just moved away from Southern Louisiana for the first time in my life, i was 13 years old.. my mother took a job in Sarasota Florida and i was starting high school there, at a magnet school for the arts, if you know of NOCCA in New Orleans , it was very similar to that .. for whatever reason i guess we didnt have the bus routes figured out for the first week or two so my mother would drop me off at school on her way to work.. ill never forget hearing for the first time ‘I Need Love’ by LL Cool J on the car ride; we cracked up because we’d never heard a rap love song before.. ‘I’ll lay down my jacket, So you could walk over a puddle’…. Other songs really popular that moment in time were Luka by Suzanne Vega, Breakout by Swing Out Sister and Fat Boys Wipeout.. at the movies id recently seen Adventures in Babysitting , The Big Easy and La Bamba…. First class was gym, i remember that since it was a pain to get all sweaty in the Florida heat then have a whole day of school left.. oh and the end of the day was memorable since I was waiting by myself for my mother to pick me up and there was a news crew at my school interviewing people about a big national story at that time.. we watched it on the news that night, cant remember what i said but im sure it was awkward…. A few years later, George W Bush would sit at my school (the elementary portion across the street) reading books to kids when he was informed about the 9/11 attacks .

It’s fascinating to me as i get older how little most people remember from their own pasts.. i dont quite have the Marilu Henner thing (Superior somehting something memory- see i cant even remember the name of the thing)- but for whatever reason memory seems to ‘stick’ in my head for a very long time, and in great detail .

I did 8-12, so it was much the same for me. The bigger transition was from grammar school to 8th. I'm pretty sure I had classes in two of the three main school buildings my 8th grade year, so the transition from 8th to 9th wasn't anything big since the cafeteria was in the one that I didn't have classes in until getting to 9th.

Out of everything that happened over my five years there, I think the things that I remember most are the very long bus rides (I was first on in the morning and last off in the afternoon) before riding with friends in their car and I was eventually able to drive and the two memories of the Space Shuttle. One was really cool and one was really terrible. Curious if you have those same two memories?

Stale donuts and soft serve ice cream. :hihi:
