Eidetic? It’s fascinating to me as i get older how little most people remember from their own pasts.. i dont quite have the Marilu Henner thing (Superior somehting something memory- see i cant even remember the name of the thing)- but for whatever reason memory seems to ‘stick’ in my head for a very long time, and in great detail .
it is always changingSi I always thought that elementary school was Kindergarten through 6th grade
Middle school was 7th and 8th grade and high school was 9th through 12th
Had no idea so many people had different set ups
I did 8-12, so it was much the same for me. The bigger transition was from grammar school to 8th. I'm pretty sure I had classes in two of the three main school buildings my 8th grade year, so the transition from 8th to 9th wasn't anything big since the cafeteria was in the one that I didn't have classes in until getting to 9th.
Out of everything that happened over my five years there, I think the things that I remember most are the very long bus rides (I was first on in the morning and last off in the afternoon) before riding with friends in their car and I was eventually able to drive and the two memories of the Space Shuttle. One was really cool and one was really terrible. Curious if you have those same two memories?
Stale donuts and soft serve ice cream.
Yup. September 1975. We had just moved form Baltimore to Salisbury, Md the year before. The middle school I went to for half of 8th grade was a dump and I got into a lot of fights as the new kid. This came up in recently
Do you remember your first day of high school?
I definitely have a ton of memories of ninth grade but memories that I know for a fact was the very first day? I actually don't think so
Which is odd because there was quite a lot of change in my life at that time
We moved from the only house I had lived in just a few weeks before
Early grade school my mom drove me to school, later grade school and middle school I walked
High school was the first time I rode the school bus (outside of field trips)
After thinking long and hard about it I honestly don't know that I remember anything about that particular day
Because of our school opening and another smaller school in the county closing, our senior class in 1975 had 47 students. Freshman class was 550. By the time we graduated it was 268. Some of those 550 got relocated to other county high schools. I felt bad for them, having moved in 8th gradeI couldn’t tell you the name or recognize a picture of a single person who was a senior when I was a freshman
Or of a freshman when I was a senior
Yep, HC guy from 8-12. We talked about it the way back years. IIRC, I was one year ahead of you.Never realized you were a Holy Cross guy or maybe I forgot? But yes, I was a very pudgy (to be kind) 5th and 6th grader due to stale donuts and soft serve ice cream.
And yes, I remember the Shuttle flying over on the back of a big jet one time and I recall watching the Challenger explosion in the Library. I assume those are the two you are talking about?
Yeah, I'm old and forget things now.Yep, HC guy from 8-12. We talked about it the way back years. IIRC, I was one year ahead of you.
Actually, the shuttle was barged right past us from Mobile to the World's Fair in '84. We got a chance to get out of class and go to the levee behind the MS building to watch it float by. It was cool as hell.

For the explosion, I was in Algebra class in the Administration building when it happened. There was a TV on a cart nearby so, I think it was Brother John, rolled the cart into class and turned it on. I'll never forget that day and the entire class was shocked to see what had happened.
