Saw an excellent documentary a few years back where a sceptical scientist started looking into contacts with Greys.
He took the most convincing sightings and broke them down to those where the witness had no history of psychosis, alcoholism or drug use and prioritised cases where the witness had more to lose if the story broke (reputation for example).
He investigated about 20 cases where the stories were very hard to refute and came to the conclusion the witnesses were telling the truth about seeing aliens.
As part of his study he gave each witness a comprehensive neurological assessment and discovered all had undiagnosed minor epilepsy.
This causes shapes and colours to distort.
He concluded that all the sightings were actually a sudden onset of epilepsy and what the subject was actually seeing was their child whose features their brains could not interpret and were understood by the brain to be aliens.
Most of the sightings happened in their homes and often in their children’s bedrooms..
So in conclusion, the sightings were real in the minds of witnesses, but there were no aliens

Xena: (The family is lost in a bad solar system) Zork, this is so dangerous. We have no business being on an planet like this.
Zork: Well, look at it this way, honey, this is a part of the universe we never get to see.
Xena: That's good!
Zork: No, that's bad. I mean, we can't close our eyes to the plight of the Earth. Kids, are you noticing all this plight? This'll just make us appreciate what we have. (There's a gunshot somewhere near the space ship, followed by a scream) Roll 'em up!

"Dad! It got caught in the tractor beam, can we keep it?"

"No, son. Remember the last family who tried that. I'm afraid humans don't make good pets."

(If just one person clicks that link and gets introduced to the Jenkinsverse, I'll be happy)

Yeah, it's been years, though. Whitley is a strange dude, and I've never been sure what to make of his claims or alleged experiences. It was a fascinating book, though.

The movie with Walken wasn't great but gave me nightmares as a kid.
Don’t think I knew there was a movie

It’s been forever since I read the book (probably high school) and don’t really remember it at all

I need to read it again, also look for this movie

Walken does give a good performance, but the rest of the movie is meh. Strieber himself wasn't a huge fan because he said it took a lot of liberties.

It's probably worth checking out at least once if you've read the book.

It might be better to watch the movie before reading the book. The book usually ruins the movie for me. Books are usually better than the movie.

I used to be a UFO believer but not anymore. There is always so much talk with nothing to back it up.

Oh!!! But someone said he worked at Langley and overheard a colleague talk about a guy he knows who used to work with a guy who worked at Area 51. That guy said other guys at Area 51 said they met a guy who heard another guy say he knows a guy who saw a flying saucer being reverse engineered in one of the underground bunkers.

It's always the same story with never any shred of evidence. Call me when disclosure happens. Otherwise, I am out.

guess this can go here as it's mentioned a lot in alien discussions
=================

Scientists think they might have found an explanation for the “wow” signal that has long led to hopes it was contact from aliens.

In August, 1977, the Big Ear radio telescope at Ohio State University picked up a signal that has fascinated scientists ever since. The scientists who first spotted it wrote “Wow!” next to the signal on a printout, and it has been known by that name ever since.

The blast was long and very intense, but only at a specific frequency. The details of the source led many to believe that it could be an intentional signal from aliens, sent using artificial technology.

Scientists found that it appeared to have come from the constellation Sagittarius, but not exactly where. It was never spotted again, leaving scientists only to speculate on whether it was a signal from an extraterrestrial intelligence.

Now, however, researchers at the University of Puerto Rico say they have found a new explanation for the signal. It was not an alien message but instead a unique astrophysical event, they say.

What’s more, they have detected similar signals – though none as intense as that first one that led to the “wow” signal.

The researchers suggest that the signal was caused when a cold hydrogen cloud suddenly turned bright. That was probably because it was hit by emissions from. radiation source, such as a magnetar flare ofr a soft gamma repeater.............
