Best guess is that Book makes the final 53, Seimian gets cut. If Seimian clears waivers, he could be brought back onto the active roster after week one if the team thinks he's a better backup QB during the season. Book then goes to practice squad and is one of the "protected" four players. If Seimian doesn't clear waivers, then Book just stays on the 53. There's a slim chance that they keep 4 QB's at cut time. Not like coach hasn't done some head scratching things at times. The only way that happens if Seimian lights it up in pre-season.

You can't permanently protect players on the practice squad. It's only a temporary thing you can do few times. He will be exposed to teams unless he's on the 53.

Risk losing Book, cut Seimian or keep 4 QBs. That's the only options.

Edit: I'm trying to remeber 100% if there is a weekly limit (can't find a source), but for sure the protection isn't permanent. After your game they become unprotected and can't be protected again until Tuesday. So they can be sniped on a weekly basis. Based on last years rules anyway.

It's possible, but doubtful.

Just looked it up. Teams can "protect" up to four practice squad players on Tuesday, but other teams can poach them on Sunday night or Monday. Book will likely make the team if he shows enough.

Here is my .02...he is a 4th round pick. So far, camp reports are saying he looks better than previous QBs
We have drafted and good backups are hard to find. If his ceiling is career backup or trade bait for upgrades later...I have no objections and consider that a win.
