Speed: They don't call me Speed for nothin'!I'm deadly with the speed sometimes.
I didn't put much stock in Maddy's opinions before this statement, but even less now. Nothing against her or Ian Book, but this is not like little league where you give the new kid who tries hard a trophy.

I think a lot of these sports writers are ginning up clicks with their takes during this camp. I guess after years of boring training camps because of Brees at QB, they are trying to maximize the page views they can garner from a legit QB competition.
Book impressing enough to be the third best QB and Book impressing the coaches enough to overtake Winston and Hill for the starting job are two completely different things. Let's see how at least one preseason game plays out before we anoint Ian Book the next Russell Wilson. And to be clear, if the Rocky music starts playing and Book rises to the top of the depth charts, then OK, but it seems more fantasy than reality at this stage. Fantasy often generates more clicks than reality though.Nick Underhill said something similar as well. He’s been very impressive so far. Winston and Hill have both been up and down and haven’t separated.
The argument is not how well he is doing with the 3rd Team, as much as how well he is doing as compared to the two ahead of him on the depth chart.Book impressing enough to be the third best QB and Book impressing the coaches enough to overtake Winston and Hill for the starting job are two completely different things. I suppose us fans will have more perspective after this weekend, but just because something is possible, doesn’t make it probable. I would think there would be more buzz inferring Book is ready to compete for the QB1 job by this point in camp if this were really a thing. The argument is not how well he is doing with the 3rd Team, as much as how well he is doing as compared to the two ahead of him on the depth chart.
Payton wont commit to a starting QB because Winston and Hill our battling it out...but whose to say Book is not in the running too.
My argument is more so down the line not making it as the opening day starter.I suppose us fans will have more perspective after this weekend, but just because something is possible, doesn’t make it probable. The other day Scooter compared Book to Jake Delhomme and that doesn’t give me much confidence.
I think that's possible. Either Hill or Winston will start opening day, and my guess is that the other one will get a chance at some point either due to injury/inconsistency/incompetence.My argument is more so down the line not making it as the opening day starter.
So you're telling me I should have saved my money and skipped the NFL Sunday Ticket this year.I think that's possible. Either Hill or Winston will start opening day, and my guess is that the other one will get a chance at some point either due to injury/inconsistency/incompetence.
By the last quarter of the season, though, I could see Payton reaching the point like he did with Charles Brown and Terron Armstead, where he decides if the veteran(s) is going to keep making mistakes he might as well play the rookie because the rookie can at least learn from his mistakes instead of just repeating them.
