Doug Nussmeier is Offensive Coordinator , Saints officially finalized hire per Underhill (60 Viewers)

Why doesn't it feel like he has a real chance at the job? It might be Staley because he is the much more experienced DC who has called plays, but Moore only worked for him for a year so there likely isn't this really strong connection between the two. And Moore worked with Paker for a year too. It's not like Nuss, Sr. who has worked with Moore for years and on every coaching job Moore has had.
Yeah but with Parker being just a DB/PGC and Staley being the HC My guess is that Moore worked more closely with Staley since Staley called D plays against KM's O

With CKM being young and a 1st time HC I think it's better for Staley to be our DC . Staley has proven he can be a top DC , not so much a HC. And that has it's advantages as well. He can help CKM avoid some of the mistakes he made as HC. Where as Parker can not. Parker will have a learning curve

If Moore decides to start Carr and they win the division but lose in the Wildcard round, there will be plenty complaining about winning too many games and not getting a top draft pick. It seems like some want to suck till the Saints get a top 5 pick, then "poof" Super Bowl.
No need to "want to suck". We were most of the way to that top 5 pick without even trying in 2024.

While division titles are nice, the goal should be much more than that. We won the division 7 times in the Payton/Brees era. 2009 will be the only one anyone cares about in 10 years if they even care now. If we can't at least be good enough to compete for a championship, then we shouldn't be satisfied.

Well, if history repeats, Daniels and Burrow really blew up their last season before the draft. I'm curious about the talent around Nuss for this year.
Loosing several elite OL guys to the NFL and will have to hope some WRs, TEs, and RBs step up on offense. Not sure LSU has another all-world
WR on the roster as has been the case for what seems like forever.

Even if he doesn't blow up into a blue chip QB, possible he gets on as a developmental back-up. It'll be very interesting how his 2025 season goes.
Would actually be pretty cool to have father/Son reunited in New Orleans. Garrett born in Lake Charles, LA. Doug born in Portland Oregon for
what it's worth.
I follow LSU but kind of casually because my wife went there and I love razzing her about it when they don’t do good so I am for the most part a neutral observer that never misses a game.

That said Nuss is poised for a breakout year this season. You can see it just under the surface. Early on he was too cocky for his own good. He took too many chances and got burned peaking in that Alabama game after that he seemed more poised under pressure and started to learn the valuable lesson of throw it away and live to fight another day (probably one of the hardest things for a QB to learn).

If he can keep his head on right this season there is no reason he shouldn’t blow up like Burrow and Daniels did.

I would love to end up with him in the black and gold if for nothing so I can blame my wife when we loose. Seriously he would be a fine NFL QB I wouldn’t go burning up draft capital to get him but if he fell to wherever we would be picking and we are still needing a QB, I would be completely fine with that pick.

You were satisfied only once in the Payton/Brees tenure? Why bother watching football?

The Saints only won 1 Super Bowl with a HOF QB and potentially HOF HC. They're not easy to come by. The Giants were a 9-7 wildcard team and won a Super Bowl. If you're in the playoffs, you're competing.

The DC will have to come in and pick a staff, evaluate the players and figure out how to switch to a 3-4, and call plays on Sunday. That's a lot for someone who's never been a coordinator before.

I think you took that wrong. I was perfectly happy and satisfied during that era because I never felt like we had no chance at a championship. Even the end of 2008 when we finished 8-8, it felt like there was more in there and that things just hadn't gone our way. That was before the Super Bowl. But there was something there and I know everyone could feel it.

I haven't felt that way since around 2020. I felt like we could probably make the playoffs but weren't good enough to make waves once we got there. After DAs first year, I didn't even feel like we had a chance at the division. This is not satisfactory to me. This is how Browns fans feel year in and year out. This is what Payton and Brees took away for 15 years and I will not go back quietly. I want more than the 23rd best QB on the 23rd best team. I don't want to sneak into the playoffs by winning the worst division. Call me spoiled by our recent success, but I don't want to settle for the shallow victories of division titles, I want what the Eagles just did. And I want the team to have that as their goal as well and to take the risks to get there even if it explodes in their faces. And ripping up the team and the cap and starting over is a risk. Kicking cap money down the road for old declining players and that 23rd best QB is not.

And today's NFL is all about parity so you don't even need to be a great to dominate team to compete for championships. The line between the top and bottom teams is razor thin. Just this season this Saints team was one defensive stop from beating the team that just won it all.

Next years draft is going to be to be REAL interesting.
I'm fairly sure you're referring to the Nussmeiers'...
I don't think CKM will allow Coach Nussmeir to remain OC of the Saints if we draft the QB Nussmeir.

You guys think the hearsay from teammates about DA coddling Carr was bad...
That will be nothing compared to Dad & Son vs the rest of the Saints team division!
Underhill & Triplett will have a field day with this one!

I can already hear all of the "Daddyball" comments!

I agree that it's probably not a seasoned vet. But could it be some former high pick that never got the right coaching and drafted into a bad situation? Free agents like Trey Lance, Justin Fields or Zach Wilson? Or perhaps trade for a young guy stuck behind and entrenched starter on another team? This much QB coaching experience isn't going to be wasted on an 11 year veteran who thinks he's already "put on tape" everything he needs to.
It's possible that Sam Darnold could be available. Not sure how that would all work out, but yeah, there are options out there.

I agree with most of this. I feel like this is the time to take bold risks and try to build a championship team. I'm no longer interested in going all in and hoping for the best. No more trading away draft picks willy nilly. They need to run from that approach. Get the cap sorted out, make the tough decisions, and take a risk or two. Try something different. Even if it ends in disaster, at least you tried. At this point what do we even have to lose? Lol we won 5 games last season. Bending over backwards and jumping through hoops to win the Offseason Olympics and we didn't even reach mediocrity.

But I think you are dismissing division championships. I understand what you're saying but a division championships mean something. You get banners and T shirts for division ships and it puts you in a better spot in terms of the playoffs. It's a great goal to accomplish. Only two teams are going to the Super Bowl and only one team wins the whole thing so if you can finish the season with the NFC South crown, I don't know, at least you achieved something. .
