N/S Eagles defensive talent & coaching….. (7 Viewers)

The Eagles have talent everywhere. Smith and Brown at wide receiver, Goedert at tight end, Barkley at tailback, dominant offensive line. Their roster is filled with first- and second-round picks.

And this year they stayed healthy. They lost Dean, but who else? Getting to the Super Bowl is so much much about good fortune, especially good health.

Don't read to much into it. The Eagles are a very good, sound team that don't make mistakes. They played solid football. But the Chiefs beat themselves more then the Eagles beat the Chiefs. I dunno how many of you recall Andy Reids time in Philly. But fans constantly grew annoyed with him because his game planning and play calling would drastically change in the playoffs and they would get knocked out. That happened last night.

For some odd reason, Reid really did NOT want to dink and dunk his passing offense. He kept calling vertical plays from the very beginning of the game and would not stop. This utterly fueled the Philly defensive line and they started pinning their ears back and dominating the Chiefs Oline. Reid should've changed to more of a west coast playcall. Instead he double downed on the vertical long plays. Look at this way, they weren't do any screens at all. As soon as they started doing screens in the 4th qtr they started moving the ball very, very well, but it was way to late in the game. And Philly wasn't even in a prevent yet.

I can honestly say it was one of the worst game planning and play callings I've ever seen from Andy Reid.

This highlights how important game planning and play calling are for an Oline to be successful. Chiefs have a good Oline. They're a little weak at left tackle, but that interior Oline has been the best in the NFL for a couple years now. Yet last night, they looked worse then ours. Play calling is more important then loading up a team of all-stars at every position.

You have to be joking here, it was blatantly obvious to anyone paying attention that the KC offensive line got destroyed by just typical 4 rushers.....the Eagles D line completely dominated with their front 4, no amount of game planning was going to change that.....Completely disagree....

You can disagree all you like. But the Eagles Dline hadn't played like that... ever. Neither has the Cheifs Oline played that poorly ever. So its more reasonable to think that one of the better Olines in the NFL came out and decided to do their best impression of the Saints, while a top 10 dline decided their twice as good as they've ever been? It doesn't add up. Until you factor in all the WR's running 10+ yards downfield nearly every play for the first 3 qtrs. Then explain to me also how the Chiefs offensive line started looking much, much better as soon as the Chiefs were utlizing passes along the Oline and within 5 yards of the LOS while the eagles were still in man-to-man (and even blitzed) and finally Chiefs scored that first touchdown.

Did you not watch the Eagles play this year? Their D has arguably been the best in the NFL.....all year.....they were 2nd in points allowed and near the top in takeaways.....

More reasonable? what kind of nonsense is that.....and do you really think Reid lost his ability to gameplan suddenly? I don't think that is a reasonable/rational take on what happened....at all....agree to disagree...

Both of the Eagles lines dominated last night.

Mahomes had zero time in the pocket.

Hurts had all day to throw.

Seriously? The Eagles D beat KC like no other team has beaten them since the Mahomes began. I've never seen Mahomes get whipped like that. They sacked him and had him under pressure with just four linemen the whole game. The Chiefs didn't beat themselves, they got that butt whipped. It wasn't even close; the better team won.

I did. And the most successful offenses have been against that defense were plays within 5 yards of the LOS. When you throw sideline to sideline your defense focuses a little less directly center and a little more spread out. Jalen Carter was dominating the man in front of him pushing the pocket back. Mahomes had no pocket to step up. Just so you know, when this occurred to Brees against he Rams with Aaron Donald, Payton put an additional blocker at fullback that would run up and assist the interior Oline so Kamara would run the flat still instead of blocking and Thomas was running slants.

I've also watched every Chiefs game this year including the last 4 years and this play calling was wildly different then just about any other game over the last 3 years. Often the Chiefs would heavily throw to the flats within the first 2 series. They didn't do that this game at all till the 4th quarter.

Both of the Eagles lines dominated last night.

Mahomes had zero time in the pocket.

Hurts had all day to throw.

Jones was playing injured. Mahomes didn't have a pocket to step into. But even then he still had about 2 seconds to throw the ball before the EDGE's turned the corner which is enough time for passes within 5 yards of the LOS, but not enough time for passes 10+ yards out.

That's because Mahomes 1st read was never there, the Eagles coverage deserves tons of credit as well because they were pinching the 1st option and PM could never get to his 2nd read because he didn't have time...and we all know why.....

So they took the running game away, the short passing game away and there was no or little time to go deep.....what gameplan is going to fix that?

They didn't take the short passing game away, because those plays were rarely called. You know what else wasn't called? Rollout plays. Another staple play of the Chiefs offense that is common.

Like I said, Reid play called a very different game then what's always worked for the Chiefs. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Eagles dline because they were great, but they also weren't do anything different, unlike the Chiefs who were for some very odd reason, doing a lot different straight from the beginning.

1. Are their players that much more talented than everyone else?
2. Are they that much better coached than everyone else?

All I know is Kellen was on the inside ……he surely knows what it takes.
The Eagles know how to draft, develop, and acquire better than anyone in the NFL. You don't see them reaching and when they commit to a player, they commit.

The Super Bowl against the Bucs was just as ugly. He just didn't get the chance to throw highlight incompletions..lol.
The better team always win though. I knew the Chiefs were going to lose because the Eagles were just an overall better team. Quiet as kept, if they played in a different location 2 years ago, the Eagle's probably win that game too..

We must have watched a different game.....because on most of Mahomes dropbacks they were initially just a few steps and he was looking to throw almost immediately.....but the receiver wasn't open.....

That's fine, again, agree to disagree

Mickey Loomis helped build that defense.

Plus the Eagles have the best GM and FO in the league and it’s not even close. To be able to win a championship with two different coaches and two different QB’s while also making it to another one in between is so impressive.

The majority of the game was dink and dunk until they were forced to pass. When they started out they didn’t let Mahomes hold the ball very long

The respect for that Dline or lack of confidence in their oline was there from start to finish
