Sirianni was brought back as HC on condition that he’d fire his coordinators

In 2022, Johnson helped led a 3rd ranked total offense, 3rd ranked scoring offense via developing Hurts for two years as QB coach. In 2023, he directly led the Eagles offense to 7th in yards and 8th in scoring. He may be worth a look here in an offensive coaching staff position, if not an OC interview.

Interesting….. I don’t put the eagles fall off on him..:

While I suppose he might be worth a look, the Eagles are a far better team than the Saints are and the competition for OCs just grew again. Where we rank on the job desirability scale will be apparent soon.

Can’t hurt bringing him for an interview
Yeah, I would have considered him for a HC job, but if we can get him in as an OC, sure.

He is the fall guy. That’s it. He was a fine OC for a year, but the quarterback lost his heart when he signed his new contract. Now to keep the quarterback happy, and to save face, they are making the 1 and done OC the fall guy.

Compared to other teams’ coordinator or staff vacancies, Saints are in better position in FO/coaching stability and identifying talent than most. Titans, Chargers, Bears, and Falcons finished worst than the Saints and still climbing to be above .500 again. Saints aren’t that far from playoff return.

He wasn't the Eagles OC in 2022, Shane Steichen was (now Indy Colts HC).

Johnson is terrible and we do not want him anywhere near this team.

He wasn’t the OC in 2022. That was Steichen. And it appears they’re blaming Johnson (at least in part) for the fall off offensively.

I’d be a little weary of that.

The Titans, Chargers and Falcons are all going to be brand new staffs that will likely have 3 years minimum to show something. All 3 also have top 10 picks in this years draft. The Bears have the 1st and 9th picks in the draft and could turn things around quickly with a new OC and a few better players.

We have an underachieving team with an apparent leadership void, disgruntled players, a HC on the hot seat, an aging roster, bad cap situation and the 14th pick. I really don't think we're as attractive as some people think.

Yeah Johnson was their QB coach from 2021-2022 and developed Hurts into a prominent QB in their top 3 offense in ‘22.

Still from 3rd to 7th isn’t a big dropoff worth firing. Hurts’ injuries that he played through and lack of WR depth was more to blame than Johnson. Sirianni had to convince the FO to keep his job by using quality coaches as scapegoats.

Especially when we'd be all those things that would make us attractive a year from now.

You take this job...you have to win in 2024 with those shortcomings or you're fired with the rest of the staff. Orrrrr you wait until 2025 then you're coming in with a "3 year cushion" to gradually get better with a high draft pick, some semblance of cap relief and a HC not on the hot seat that they players might actually respect.

I take option 2 please and thank you

But we are also a lot more attractive than some people think. We aren't getting a hot OC. Those guys are getting HC jobs. And, we aren't likely getting guys that already have play calling experience like the Seattle OC who is likely going to the Bears. But there is no reason to think we can't get one of the QB coaches or passing game coordinators who are schooled in the Shanahan/McVay systems. I'm not sure we will get our first choice, but that doesn't mean we are going to be forced to go with a Gruden, Curry, or Marrone.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. It's pretty clear to all that the offense mostly held the Saints back this season, and they were one game away from the playoffs and have some very good pieces to work with on offense. I don't see how anyone hoping to be an OC doesn't look at the Saints and get excited because the pieces to be good are already there. If DA gets a good OC, they are winning the division next year.

Even those QB coaches have better options that offer more years to succeed than the Saints do, even just being promoted on their current teams.
