I thought defense was the biggest issue the way they were gutted….

Johnson is a heckuva coach, and he’s just a fall guy/scapegoat for Sirianni sucking.Yikes he was on my DA replacement list....well that's why I'm not a GM

The Bears, as hard as it is to believe, are in a tough division. Detroit in Championship Game, Packers got really close and the Vikings are not that bad. NFC South looks like a cakewalk compared to that. The Titans, Chargers and Falcons are all going to be brand new staffs that will likely have 3 years minimum to show something. All 3 also have top 10 picks in this years draft. The Bears have the 1st and 9th picks in the draft and could turn things around quickly with a new OC and a few better players.
We have an underachieving team with an apparent leadership void, disgruntled players, a HC on the hot seat, an aging roster, bad cap situation and the 14th pick. I really don't think we're as attractive as some people think.
Yet the Bears were the first to fill their open OC position with one of our first 3 candidates. Their top 10 cap space and two top 10 draft picks leave a lot more room for them to get better right away. We also don't know that these guys are looking to be the best team in the worst division. Some of them may like the challenge of working from the bottom of the division up rather than be responsible for a team that's been underachieving. The Bears, as hard as it is to believe, are in a tough division. I also think that cost of living has to factor in a little bit for somebody like an Offensive Coordinator or position coach. New Orleans is WAY cheaper to live than Chicago, Atlanta, San Diego and Nashville. The only NFL cities that might be cheaper are Buffalo, Cincinnati, Detroit and Green Bay.
I don't think cost of living is a huge factor, but it might be for some people.
I've seen some estimates that coordinators make about $1 million per year.
Bring him in as a Tush Push consultant for Taysom on 3rd or 4th and 1
Not content to just chop wood. Good for them.
Scapegoat. Easier to fire the OC than get rid of a QB you way overpaid for. Gimmick QBs don't have QB skills to fall back on when forced to play QB.Interesting….. I don’t put the eagles fall off on him..:
Some view that as a weak move, throwing your coordinators under the bunch. The HC has an offensive background, right?Yeah Johnson was their QB coach from 2021-2022 and developed Hurts into a prominent QB in their top 3 offense in ‘22.
Still from 3rd to 7th isn’t a big dropoff worth firing. Hurts’ injuries that he played through and lack of WR depth was more to blame than Johnson. Sirianni had to convince the FO to keep his job by using quality coaches as scapegoats.
This! Fans don’t wanna hear it but our team is at the bottom of every OC opening list.
