NFL Eagles shopping TE Dallas Goedert (84 Viewers)

Sorry but Saintaholik is right…anyone that thinks Dallas Goedert, Juwan Johnson, and Foster Moreau are in the same tier isn’t watching any tape or the same footage as I am. Two completely different players.

Sure you can simply look at birds-eye view stats, but you have to remember that Goedert has had a different level of target share over his career and now compared to Moreau or Johnson, playing on teams with true #1 and #2 receivers, as well as several years spent sharing targets with Zach Ertz. I’d even go as far as to say that the Eagles’ depth chart dynamics over his career there may have even held him back and there may be some room to grow there for a late career surge if he goes to the right system/team.

The things he can do athletically are nothing like anything we’ve had since Jimmy Graham. Not to compare those two players, but for me, he’d be the best TE we have had here talent wise since Graham’s departure and, if he remains healthy, would likely put up the best statistical output we have seen at the position since Ben Watson when he was here in his twilight years balling at age 35+ with a late career surge of his own.

Foster Moreau and Juwan Johnson are absolutely awful comps. This is a situation where their draft statuses are what they are compared to Goedert’s for a reason. They’re completely different calibers of athletes.

And oh yeah by the way, Goedert is also one of the best run blocking tight ends in the game.

This would be a HUGE move.

We haven’t had TEs that change a game for a long time. Johnson and Moreau don’t come close to Goedert. I get that he’s older and a lot of people including myself want to get younger, but to make an argument that Goedert is basically Johnson or Moreau is laughable.

Anyone who disagrees with this - go watch the Philly / Green Bay playoff game and tell me Goedert isn't a difference maker.

Josina is as credible of a reporter as there is. She’s not making this stuff up out of thin air. She cares too much about her reputation for that.

I’d believe her over just about any reporter outside of maybe a couple of the big dogs like Schefter and Pelissaro, and Underhill.
She tends to get a lot of her information directly from players and/or their agents. It is usually pretty spot on.

I would not invest much in the way of draft capital or money in Goedert. He turned 30 and would not expect him to get better with age.

Basically, can he be a Jeremy Shockey for this team?

And irony of ironies if he's traded to a team that also selects another promising rookie, given that's what happened with him and Ertz.

He's also currently the second highest paid TE in 2025. I would agree with others that he is an upgrade, but at $15.5m he seems like a luxury. It might be better to wait for a release to see if we can get him for a better deal. Familiarity with Moore could give us an edge if he hits the open market.

I would not be surprised if he gets released.

No real news here outside of what we already know, but still a good read on the prospects of this potential trade.

The piece did remind me that we have an extra 4th round pick this year though. Had forgotten about that.

That’s kind of what has me feeling like Josina is talking about us when referencing a team that needs a salary adjustment in order to complete the trade.

What's laughable is putting Goeder in the Jimmy Graham category. He was a good TE 3 or 4 years ago but he's not that player anymore. Anyone that thinks he is still that player is living in the past. If you take out the game against the Saints last year, and a huge chunk of his yards came on one broken play in that game, he had 32 catches for 326 yards last year. That's not a game changing TE no matter how you look at it.

There is a reason Philly is willing to let him go and it's not because they can't afford him. He's not the player he was and his production does not equal his cost.

There are plenty of better options available at TE in the draft. Or you can sign Engram. Or you can trade for Mayer.

If he gets released and doesn't cost draft picks, I'm fine with it if Moore thinks he can still play. But really only because we have no healthy TEs right now. We really need to improve this position in the draft or with young players with upside.

I would think that if he gets traded, it will be less than a 4th. Maybe one of the pick swap scenarios (unless Eagles restructure to eat a little of his cap hit). Otherwise, a release would not surprise me.

If the Eagles were to take a 4th or 5th round pick and take on a big portion of his cap hit, then I'd be all for it. Purely on talent he'd be an excellent TE to add for us, but he is injury prone and expensive. He played well last year in Kellen Moore's offense and would likely step right in and be a quality TE option for us this season.

Who did this?

That might not quite be a fair interpretation of this, but it's really close to putting him in the same category as Graham. It's certainly putting him in the same athletic category and he isn't even close to that:

"The things he can do athletically are nothing like anything we’ve had since Jimmy Graham. "

Look man, I don't want to fight about it. If you think Goedert is still a great TE, cool. I just don't think he's close to the player he was and at this point isn't much of an upgrade over Johnson and Moreau. I'll give you that he a better blocker than Johnson and a better receiver than Moreau, but the full package isn't a huge improvement over what we have other than that he's a complete TE.

And if it takes a big contract and draft picks to get him, I'd rather get Mayer, Engram, or take TEs in the draft. And again, if Philly is willing to let him go, it's a serious buyer beware situation. They know if he's still the player he was and if he's hitting the age cliff.

That being said, if he's released, comes relatively cheap, and Moore wants him, then I'm fine with signing him. But we also need to take a TE in the first 3 rounds of this draft.
