N/S Eagles trade CJ Gardner Johnson to the Texans (23 Viewers)

I like Becton, but some mid-level Guard from the Vikings just got $18 million AAV from the Colts. The Market at Guard is apparently now booming and could price us out of the Becton market.

I still don't want to do it, but if $18 million is the price for a good Guard in the NFL then maybe taking a guy like Will Campbell who might end up playing Guard at #9 isn't completely crazy?
Boy, I dunno. Our o-line is still in desperate need of quality reinforcements. It's why I don't like Jeanty at 9 without much up front to block for him.

Didn't think much of Campbell after the Tigers lost to USC to start last season. He spent the week leading up to the game telling the media how they were going to force their will on the Trojans and run the ball well, etc. It ended up being a more damaging loss for the Tigers than their SEC losses.

Wow, even the GM that everyone bows down to kiss his feet got tired of CJGJ and shipped him out.

Even if your Dennis-Allen 'esque projection of their reason is true - please back up your assertion from any of the Eagles many beat writers or fan-pundits.

Maybe it's not CJ's attitude they don't like - in his two seasons they went to 2 Super Bowls, won one of them, and CJ had 12 interceptions in those two seasons. What they may not want is to go through another future overpay-me demand, which is a CJ-m.o. that has paid off bigly for the guy. Like someone said, he is a mercenary, but he's been getting signed by excellent teams. He may not be getting paid a ton, but he sure plays alot on big post-season stages.

Consider though - Howie had signed him to a lower-paying, short-term deal. So he's not burdened by eating $5M in dead money to take a shot at reviving the career of a former 15th-overall pick. As well as upgrading a 6th round pick in 2026 to a 5th-rounder. They expect to lose Becton, also a guard, and who's another cheap short-term contract.

It's business szn.

The Eagles have Sydney Brown and Lewis Cine as depth that could take CJ's role, a revolving-door they have gotten great results from.

Ask yourself - would the Saints defense have been better off the past 3 years with CJ on it? Mickey and Dennis chose to make an example out of CJ. Who won that one?

My opinion is that the Dennis Allen HC era basically ended before game 1, when they shipped out the spirit animal.

Honestly, I don't care about CJGJ.

He’s unprofessional, a jerk, a team cancer, a malcontent, and flat-out ignorant.

There’s a reason he can’t stick anywhere.

Oh lord. Vent it out, but let's not let the urge to rip the guy cloud the reality that the Saints ran him off, devalued his leadership on the field, and stupidly traded him to a conference contender.

I loved the guy. He was a rising team star, a draftee of ours.

Apparently, neither did this guy.

Saints defense was top 10 in points allowed in 22 and 23. Top 10 in passing defense those two years, too. Last year the passing defense was bad. So last year, yeah, he's probably better. In 22 & 23, doubt it. Definitely not 23 considering he missed most of the season with an injury (played a total of 3 regular season games, returned for the playoffs where he committed a dumb personal foul in the NFCCG and taunted 49ers fans in the 1st half before getting lit up alongside the rest of the DET defense in the 2nd half).

The Brandin Cooks comps people are making are apt. CJ, like Cooks, is a decent enough player somebody will have him but he's not as good as he thinks he is and nobody's willing to hitch their wagon to him for too long.
