Early take on how we match up next week vs. Dallas? (1 Viewer)

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best regular season teams in the NFL. They always put together a good team until the playoffs arrive. The Saints will be playing a tough team not like the Panthers would could be picking first in the draft next season. This will be a good test for the Saints

Carolina's D does not stink, they were the #4 D last yr

Carolina's D was 28th in PPG and last in Takeaways in 2023. Their #4 ranking is based on short fields due to Bryce. They got worse in the offseason trading Burns. They are a 2-15 team that might go 1-16 or worse.

The last time Dallas' defense face the type of scheme the Saints run, they allowed 42 points. The Saints are absolutely not the 49ers, but seeing today's game everyone has to acknowledge the Saints have more than a punchers chance.

On replay, Carr's throw to Moreau was nowhere near as risky as it looked from the first angle. Moreau was wide open. The only Panthers player who had a chance was covering Johnson and was at least 5 yards away from Moreau when Carr let it rip.
Most NFL throws are risky. Every good qb has to take risky throws. If a qb only throws safe throws they wouldnt pass but 10 times a game.

They were a nice team to open against. It gave the team a chance to try different things and work on a lot without too much risk. The Saints are primed to beat the Cowgirls.

I watched a bit of the first half. Browns were putrid on o. If we move Carr around, go a little untraditional at times in the passing game we will move the ball. Keep giving taylor sack ops prescott is not very elusive. Gonna have to handle the crowd noise.

Cowboys are one of the most talented teams in the entire NFL. Did you see what they did to a 10 win team last year?

6 sacks today against the Browns. Our OLine is gonna get tested for real.

Yep, they are gonna absolutely try to get Carr off his mojo early and disrupt the run game. This is going to be a tough one.

I think if anything our defense is the difference in this one. Fumble recovery could be the game either way.

It worked out. You don't throw it back across the middle of the field against your body late in the redzone. You just don't do it, especially on 2nd and goal from the 3. Do it next week and Diggs will be scoring a TD.

And that was one of Carr's two mistakes today. The other was hitting the truck stick up 20 for no other reason than to do it.

The rest of the game he played flawless.
Late to the party but Carr hitting the truck stuck was not a mistake. There is a psychology to the game that is often times more important than the physical aspect of it. This offense has been lacking teeth for years and Carr has taken a lot of heat for it. That hit might have seemed meaningless and stupid in the game but I guarantee that if there was a way to assess the players about it we would find that the benefit of the motivation that comes from it will be incalculable.

To be fair for context the Panthers spent a whole bunch of money on two new starting tackles
I'm not sure what that had to with my comment, as I said nothing about the panthers but even so their tackles played pretty good. Alontae Taylor Sacks from NB position was more on the RB then on their offensive line

It’s crazy to think that the next 5 games could very well determine the season for this team, already.

Cowboys, Eagles, Falcons, Chiefs, Buccaneers

-

That’s crazy to me, but there’s definitely some truth in the statement
The tough stretch is the one that you want. This team needs respect. Visor dude needs to learn how to lead us to victory against these types of teams. None of this trying to reel off wins late into the season. Just go out there and continue to make statements to put the NFL on notice

I was impressed at the excitement, enthusiasm, and overall team chemistry the Saints showed all day. The team has the talent. If they show up and play together the way they did today, they can beat anybody.

But I will take what happen Sunday and be happy, because last year we would have won this game 17-6 or 17-13 something like that haha

While I doubt we beat the Cowboys, it's not out of the question. I always want to win, but even if we just compete hard and are in the game the entire game it will show me that we are on to something.

Yea I want this one bad. Can't imagine how you have it, It's bad enough out here in Long Beach, CA, cowboys and niners everywhere. We have things to clean up but I'm quietly confident after last night's performance. The players got a great win, and I don't believe Dak is that guy.
Definite improvement and cautiously optimistic.

Dallas is a true measuring stick. A playoff contender who has a stout defense.

If we come out on top with a good amount of points, we’re in good shape.

I would agree if the play was meaningful in any way or in a close game. Carr doesn't need to prove he is tough to anyone, everybody knows that. He needs to prove he can win and you can't do that from the bench.

Carr is throwing the ball off his back foot, 18 yards of air travel against the grain in the red zone. The freeze frame is the release point. The red circle is where the ball was thrown. Again, this is 2nd and goal from the 3 up 10-0. Tell me how many time you want your QB to make that throw. Also, if #2 played for the Saints and gave that effort we'd be killing that dude right now.

It was a calculated risk and our veteran QB calculated it properly. The angle from behind Moreau that the telecast showed indicated to me that the throw wasn’t as risky as it appeared from the traditional TV angle.

Carr isn’t some rookie that’s still learning the speed of the game, what he can or can’t get away with, etc.; he understands the field dynamics and trusted his judgment to make a play.

I don’t feel right about critiquing a veteran player for this particular play that ended up working.

Good point, teams playing against Carolina averaged the 2nd best starting field position last year. They were 5th in yards allowed per drive but 27th in points allowed per drive.
