N/S Falcons Have Second Interview With Bill Belichick (Now Likely To Be Falcons HC) (1 Viewer)

Which is why I thought you were talking about Sean Payton's working elsewhere, when you were just talking about the base of the system.
It started with McDaniels.

Anyway…Joe Brady succeeded with many of Payton’s concepts at LSU and (without studying Buffalo deeper), I’m assuming he’s using some of those currently at Buffalo.

But the thread is getting off track. McDaniels has been terrible without Tom Brady, outside of one outlier season. Maybe he finds success in his next stop, Atlanta or otherwise. But there is a lot of evidence that his offense isn’t something to be feared.

Really not something to worry about. A DA led team shut out Belichick just 3 months ago. He might be able to coach a defense still but he doesn’t have a clue on offense without Brady and the Falcons have no QB.

Rather the Falcons go down this route than the possibility of Jim Harbaugh or a Ben Johnson type who could be there for 10+ years if he works out.
They got position to draft one though

That outlier season is also the only season that had a rookie QB that didn't have to learn an entirely new scheme and dumped what they have been doing for years.

All I'm saying is I can't judge him because vets who played in a system completely different for years couldn't pick up the offense quickly. There are some offenses that are very complex and this is commonly know; McDaniels and Arians are 2 that are known for notoriously tough playbooks (Brady couldn't finish a season in Arians offense). If he goes with Belichick and they pick their QB, we will end up calling that season another "outlier."

Yeah, that article is definitely not a ringing endorsement of McDaniels lol.

But it confirms everything that I've been saying. Derek Carr ran the same type of offense for 8 seasons, and have never ran anything that complex before. He would have probably done better with another under his belt but what happened happened. We can talk about him as a head coach (he sucks at it) but as an OC, I can't judge him because QBs and WRs aren't able to pick up a complex offense immediately. Once upon a time, it didn't matter and development was a thing. Crap, that why we got all of these college style systems in the league now. It's not "modern." Gotta accommodate for the fact that QB skill ain't what it used to be...lol. But that's another topic. Whatever will be, will be. It will be an interesting off-season.
