I have been very critical of many of the choices the Saints organization have made since the end of the Payton era.

* Did not like the Dennis Allen hire.
* I wanted Pete C. replaced after Payton left.
* I disliked the Carr signing.
* I though the win now approach was a fool's errand.
* It led to poor cap management over the last 3 seasons.
* I was not a fan of moving up and trading away draft picks.
* I thought it was perfectly fair to critize how Loomis and the front office have ran the team since the Payton era ended.

None of that really matters now. Hiring Moore and the coaching staff they have assembled around him is a very strong and positive step forward for the team and organization as a whole. At least to me we have to give the staff a chance to build the team and show us the plan before we can really evaluate the direction the team is moving in. Keeping Carr this year does not disqualify the team from still buidling towards a better long term future.

I truly belive that you can assemble a completive team with Carr and some of the players we have on the roster while still having a long term plan for the future. Lets see how the manage the cap, what they do during the draft and how the tackle FA. This was always going to likely be a 2-3 year process and committing to Carr this year is by no means a sign that he will be the QB next year.

Until we start making more aggressive "win now" moves. For example moving up in the draft for anything other then a QB, or overpaying for aging veterans. I am content to let things play out and give the new staff a chance to show us what there vision of the team is. This is the most excited I have been for Saints football in a long time. Even if they make some head scratching choices, at least for my part I am willing to give them some leeway.

What if Moore is able to unlock Carr and build the offense that can take advantage of his skill set? What if a fresh set of eyes on defense can get the most out of some aging vets while there still on the roster? Is it possible for Moore to build the team and culture by winning now and into the future? Going into this season with a blank slate and zero expectations. I don't really care about the wins and losses as much as I do about the attitude of the team. The last three seasons always felt like a disconnect between the players and the coaches. We very well might only win 5 games again this season, but not every 5 win season is the same. Sometimes Loomis is right and you do have to look beyond the results and I hoping this season what we see is team building a foundation for future success.

Moore absolutely. Young guy who needs some time to grow I tot he job. Front office with Loomis continuing to kick the can down the road instead of tearing off the bandaid to start over, not so much. I was hoping for something different to happen. But, looks like we are continuing to be jammed against the cap and having decisions governed by it.

I agree with the gist of your post and I think universally we are all excited about Kellen Moore and of course they'll get patience from me.

There is a nice risk with your question above, were it to play out, which is how and how much would we pay Derek Carr after that? How good would the Saints offense have to be for them to extend Carr further? It's a question whose answer is a year away, assuming Carr really is on our roster next season. We'll know where things currently stand soon because we are about 16 days from annual cap compliance day.

It's in Carr's best interest to finally settle in and do the best he's done, because then he grows leverage either with us or as a free agent. The problem is that every time Derek Carr has been expected to play his best or better ball, it has not happened, so it's impossible to trust.

But yeah, we're all joyfully gobbling the Kellen'it gummies right now.

Patience ended with Allen. This is a catch-up now, and the early signs from Mick are not reassuring.
Y’all do know that if Kellen would have said he needs to move on from Carr and rebuild the roster that Mickey would have done that right?

Moore thinks he can win this division, and he’s not wrong. A couple mid tier free agents like Becton, Reid, and Tart and bringing back Adebo and Young while focusing on LB, Edge, WR,RB and TE in the draft and this team could be as good as anyone in the NFC. Everyone acts like we are talent deficient everywhere, we have alot of young talent, we just have a few older guys that could use an upgrade but they are still playing at a serviceable level, add some talent alongside them to take some pressure off and then ultimately replace them next offseason.

For instance earlier playing around with OTC calculator we could clear up to 30 million in cap space, then bring back Young on a 4/60 and Adebo on a 2/22, sign Becton to a 4/40, Reid to a 4/40, Tart to a 3/18, Baun to a 2/19 (or pick a LB) and still end up with around 14 million in available cap to sign draft picks and have injury money going into the season.

I believe most on this forum and a good bit of the FA base understand the situation of this team and the obstacles Moore has in front of him.

While I’m not saying this season is wash, if we have a bad record but can see that players are at least trying and improving as the season progresses, then fans will be more optimistic. If they come out and play lifeless like they did for Allen then there will be questions. Player development will be a key focal point for this coaching staff that will determine their success rate.

It will be interesting to see how many UDFA’s we bring in given our lack of cap space and severe depth issues. We’ve been really good as a team in finding hidden gems in the UDFA pool. This goes hand in hand with the player development piece.

2026 (year 2) will be the real telling season. The cap situation should be a lot better and core players will have a year in the new schemes. This will also give Moore and Staley a years observation on which players they can build around, who needs to move on, and who they can bring in to fill the gaps.

IMO, the staff Moore has assembled gives hope that we will be using faster paced schemes on both sides which will hopefully improve our defense against mobile QB’s who have been killing us.

Yes, you don't have to agree with every move but let's support the choices and give them a chance. Booing Carr at home games everytime he throws an interception will not help his confidence or help this team. And it actually makes the fan base sound ridiculous when I hear it especially early in the season when things haven't gelled yet.

I'm treating 2025 as an evaluation. Let it play out and look for the positives. You don't have to blow smoke but try to see what they are doing and if they are making the steps toward it.

Not so sure about first statement if Loomis told him it was just not financially feasible. That would be Loomis' call. As far as clearing that much to make all of those signings would likely require restructuring Carr completely which could be a disaster next year. Also, I think you are highly optimistic on some of those contracts, but hope you are right.

Moving Carr absolutely would be financially feasible if that’s what Moore wanted. There’s multiple articles out about how it can be achieved. You wouldn’t be much of a player in FA though.

Restructuring all 30 million of Carr’s money wouldn’t be an issue next season, he could still be cut and save money from his 61 million cap hit. You could probably save up to 30-40 million in 2026 also depending on how you restructure the money into void years etc.

All those values were taken from Spotrac’s fair market value, they could ultimately end up higher which would mean you would have to not sign one of those guys (likely Baun/LB)

I really think Moore only gets a one year pass. By the end of the 2026 season, if we aren't knocking on the doorstep of a playoff berth, there wont be any more patience. He's stepping in on the heels of a head coach that was fired well after he should have been. Don't expect the front office to have the same patience as they did with Allen. This league moves fast. Last place teams rocket up to first place teams in one off-season. I have patience, but its going to wear thin if we don't at least see signs of the new system working in this next season.
