Fans wanting Saints to lose (3 Viewers)

Winning that meaningless Giants game by luck cost us 5 spots in the draft. I do not know how someone can look at that and think it's insignificant. This is particularly true when the hope should be that we are only drafting in the top 10 one time, even though it's a good possibility it will be twice.

I was asked by a lot of friends and family about whether I wanted the team to lose yesterday and my response never waivered:

Zero of the tons of all-pro level talent Loomis has drafted has come in the top 10. There’s not really a ton of difference in NFL success rate from rounds 1-3 with this front office. I think draft picks are extremely overrated unless you’re trading them and we aren’t.

Next, wanting to lose is a loser mentality. I’m not name calling. It’s in the definition of the word. If you feel that way, how are you approaching the rest of your life? Do you have pride? Self-respect? I have a hard time not judging people that support losing or tanking in sports.

Lastly, WE DONT HAVE TO HELP THE FALCONS MISS THE PLAYOFFS. THEY WILL ALWAYS CHOKE ON THEIR OWN. I NEVER CARED ABOUT THEIR GAME BECAUSE THEY HAVE A LOSING CULTURE FULL OF LOSERS WHO ALWAYS LOSE.

Death, Taxes, and Falcons choking.

If me or anyone else has any part of their life impacted by how we feel about whether we want the Saints to win or lose for draft positioning, we would have much bigger issues than what you are talking about. No matter how untrue and farfetched it is.

Now, if the players were hoping to lose. That would be losers mentality. Our mentality is not determined at all by how we feel about something we have no control over.

In all honesty, this is the first year I have ever wanted us to lose games once we were out of playoff contention. That is because I am hoping for once Loomis gets a top pick right on the defensive side of the ball.

And yes, picking higher up always gives you a better shot at better talent. Even though it's still somewhat of a crapshoot. Since 1977 the most successful players have been drafted in the top 5 with the number 1, 2, and 4 producing the most successful players. In 2020 with All pro OL were listed in a database, 39 of the 50 were first round draft picks.

Exactly. As fans we can want what is best for future seasons once we are eliminated from the playoffs or even if there is an outside shot at a one and done. But none of us want players that have that mentality and I don't think there are any that actually do. It's seems silly to me that fans can't separate the two.

Broke this down further for this season alone.

ESPN did an ALL Pro team for the season. 6 of the offensive players are 1st round picks and 6 of the defensive players are 1st round picks. The other 5 came from rounds 2-7 on both sides of the ball and the defense has one undrafted player.

Side note. Zack Baun made the ESPN 2024 All pro team

Absolutely no good came from trying to win. Foster Moreau tore his ACL with 2 minutes left in the last game (a meaningless game) of a nightmare season. Now instead of dude spending the offseason on vacation, dude has to go through surgery and rehab.

Me...in that position, I wouldn't rehab a damn thing do 2025 on IR then injury settle '26 and be done with it. That sucks for dude.
