Favorite Apple? (1 Viewer)

Kanzi is now my family's favorite apple. We found these recently at Aldi and had never seen them before here. Incredibly crisp, but not dense so it's still easy to bite into and breaks off in chunks. The perfect balance of sweetness and tartness IMO. Both flavor sensations have a ton of pop, yet neither is overpowering. Juicy, but not so juicy that it's dripping off the apple. If you can find these, definitely give them a try. Honeycrisp will always remain the go-to because you can find them anywhere, but the Kanzi is superior in every category.
Just picked up a bag of the kanszi’s

Kanzi's were a hit! Also picked up a bag of Snap Dragon for Aldi's too. They were pretty good but the Kanzi's were way better

Nearly the season

Who’s going apple picking this year?

I'm allergic to raw apples, plums, peaches, and pears. Any fruits in this vein really. No real reason for posting that except the thread got to 10 pages and I couldn't participate.

Quince would probably do you in.

What about avocados?

I can eat avocado. I think it has something to with the skin of some fruit but I don't know for sure. I can eat fruits you peel like citrus and bananas. I can also eat melons like honeydew and watermelon. I can eat grapes, anf blueberries with no problems. Strawberries, Blackberries and raspberries give me only the slightest hint of irritation, not enough to keep me from eating them.

I find that if I peel certain types of pears and rinse them well, it's not as bad. I'll do that on the odd occasion but sometimes it doesnt help at all. Apples and peaches give me the most issues so I just avoid them because there's nothing I can do.

For the record, I am the quintessential nerd that's allergic to everything. This includes shellfish which made living in southern Louisiana tough. I'm also allergic to several different types of trees which makes living in Atlanta hard. For the kicker, Im also allergic to dogs. Why couldn't it have been cats?

Interesting. I only asked because I know people that are allergic to "pit fruits" which would include avocados (but not necessarily apples, I think).

That sucks about your allergies. I can relate, having developed an odd allergy to only crawfish in about the last 7 years or so. That sucks.

According to this, my fruit allergy stems from my tree pollen allergy (which makes sense if you think about it), but even still, it doesn't totally follow the list for me. I develop symptoms for carrots but usually not celery, for example. But then, yeah sometimes celery. But never avocados, and always peaches.

But that's Immunology. It is a strange, strange and highly individual-specific science.
